The Fourth Release by a National Treasure,

This review is from: Two Ones (Audio CD)
I've listened to jazz for more than thirty years and I can think of no artist who's musical sense and sensibilities are more right-on than Harry Skoler's. "Two Ones" may seem deceivingly simple in the lines, melody, intonation, emotions; but what underlies is a fantastically grounded musical expression and pleasurable musical experience by a contemporary clarinet master. Never a wasted note, an extraneous flourish or an over the top expression that would leave one scratching one's heads feeling, "what was the point of that?" The flow and subtlety are always engaging. This disc has two sections. One a quintet and one a duo with vibes/piano. Each contrasts a level of synthesis and communication that the players exhibit. This is the fourth release by the artist that I cherish as one of the stars of my jazz collection. I'm not sure why Mr. Skoler isn't known as a national treasure. In my book he is!
