Ray Master and his crew rock!,

Detroit funksters Raydio stormed R&B billboard lists with this album in 1980.Very uplifting tracks 'It's time to party now', 'Until the morning comes', Herbie Hancock helped them to compose slow-groove 'Tonight's the night' and especially Cameo & P-Funk inspired 'For those who like to groove'. Slow-jams are simply Raydio style such as the title song, beatiful 'Cant keep from cryin','A little bit of you'... I've been listening to this album over and over without any reluctance since I grabbed. This album is extremely rare and hard to find, therefore most of the music stores import this from Japan. If you find this album by chance, you must be the luckiest person in the world!Don't miss out. Ray Master & Jerry The Knight of Funk and other members(Carmichael Bros.) are outstanding! Lets put the Detroit groove on your mind!

For those who would like ALL of Ray Parker, Jr's music in CD format.....,

Hello. By now you may already know that all of Raydio and Ray Parker's original albums are now released on CD as imports from the UK, Argentina, Japan and Britian. You can obtain them through Ebay as there are several stores that are selling them. OBI listings (a favorite collectors label attached to the CD in a foreign language) are more expensive, however, you can still get them at a reasonable price-without this coveted label.
If you are a longtime, huge fan such as myself, still keep up with this maestro as I do, are an all around lover of his past and present creations, and lastly can afford them, the price may not matter. Bottom line, they are available and reasonable. I have ALL of his original albums now on CD format: From the first 'red' Raydio album through the last one called I'm Free - most recent solo release in 2006. Also, there are several compilations of his on CD format as well. The compliations can be found here in the U.S. Personally, I think it is a shame that the U.S. doesn't value his recordings enough to format them onto CDs to be available right here in this country where he made his fortune and brought huge, musical entertainment to the masses as well as help increase the financial wealth and success of the labels he was signed with. The U.S. seemed to love him and marketed him accordingly, during his heyday and we are advanced in technology, so I don't know what the slack is and it never made any sense. To me, that speaks volumes!!

Turn up the Raydio!,

This album, released in early 1980,spawned one Top 20 hit which is the title track. Ray Parker Jr.,under contract with Arista Records was scoring at least one hit every year between 1978 and 1985. That includes his biggest hit to date,GHOSTBUSTERS from the 1984 Columbia film of the same title. Detroit-born Parker is one of the most talented R&B musicians on earth,as I mentioned in my review for his 1993 GREATEST HITS album. Needless to say,if Parker had an identical twin, there would be times where he'd be "TWO PLACES AT THE SAME TIME"! The other songs are funkily great. According to rayparkerjr.com,there are plans in the works to re-issue Parker's albums on CD in America. No R&B fan should be without this album.

Some really good tracks on this - picked mine up for 50p in a secondhand store - mint vinyl! one of my luckiest finds. Soem ace gutiar licks by ray , but each track is produced well and effect is grooving - not bland like a lot from this era. Reminds me of g-funk instrumental parts. ...

Definitely Raydio!,

In my opinion they were the most talented RnB/soul group in late 70's and early 80's, that's why i said because Raydio gave the "strong voice" Ray Parker Jr, and funky duo Ollie and Jerry(they also made Breakin soundtrack(Showdown, Electric Boogaloo, Aint no stoppin us) and it's definitely 80's album, I recommend it to you very much)to the Rnb/soul history. On the other hand this album is irresistible. In a word simply Raydio style,so groovy,so funky,so romantic.Don't miss out!

Something You Can Groove AND Listen To,

This review is from: Two Places At Same Time (Audio CD)
In the first year of the 80's decade everything about the medium of radio was changing. In terms of R&B radio the assault of disco had become annoying,if not flat out offensive to some ears. Funk suddenly became labeled as such could no longer get any airplay. The general R&B radio format turned into something called "urban",usually associated with easy "quiet storm" type ballads or smooth grooves. But also with a lighter, more pop oriented sort of funk that was developing. In terms of their musical progression this recording finds Raydio spinning out their own type of urban funk.It does'nt keep the tempo and groove moving steadily along as with the previous album Rock On.And of course it certainly doesn't possess the same kind of hefty, rhythmic, horn packed thump the bubbled on to the surface on their debut Raydio Ray Parker. What you do get are a good mixture of funky songs, some ballads and a few things in between that are a lot of fun but seldom particularly rowdy or punchy."It's Time To Party Now","Until The Morning Comes" and even "Everybody Makes Mistakes" with it's raunchier guitar solo's from Parker have a vital musical kick that's missing;none are polyrhythmic at all for one and have unusually economic production even by Ray Parker Jr standards. What your basically getting is what I call urban contemporary funk when you get all things done. The title ballad is even more so with it's strings and it's somewhat nagging mellowness. It's a very pleasant song to listen to but hardly a gutsy soul ballad."A Little Bit Of You" is a pleasant "retro neuvo" kind of tune, with this then retro doo-wop kind of beat with some moog accents.Maybe Ray was ahead of his time a couple decades early in regards to the whole "dressing old school music up with something modern" thing, although at that point people would be mixing grooves like THIS with digitized hip-hop.Well if digitized is something your into this kind of gets in on the ground floor of that too."Tonight's The Night" a tune so many people go into this album for.Between the brittle, digitized moog pops and the the textured keyboards of guest musician Herbie Hancock the tunes midtempo pace is 100% secure;a clever Smokey Robinson-like lyrical exchange about Alexander Graham Bell towards the end of the song is pure icing on the cake. The song was so strong Herbie did his own version of it (as well as another variation on the melody called "Satisfied With Love") on his next album Magic Windows, more then worth having."Can't Stop Crying" is for all intents and purposes is a harmonic reworking of "You Can't Change That" from the previous album but it's a mellower song that actually has a little more bite,if such a thing can be.On the closer Raydio finally do grab back some heavy energy with this hefty,guitar/moog-soaked intrumental rare groove called "For Those Who Like To Groove",another song with an early P-Funk like techno funk element to it.This is not the first Raydio album I'd recommend but once you'd heard one of their first two of even if you have the excellent Raydio finale A Woman Needs Love this would be a good second album to choose.

WHAT'S MORE TO SAY, EXCELLENT PRODUCT. ONCE I RECIEVED THE CD IN THE MAIL AND PLAYED IT PERFECT FROM BEGINNING TO END NO DEFECTS OF ANY KIND. HAD TO REPLACE BECAUSE MY ORIGINAL COPY WAS ON 8-TRACK AND HAD BEGUN TO LOSE IT'S TRACKING ABILITY. WILL PURCHASE OTHER LIKE PRODUCTS IN FUTURE!

For Those Who REALLY Like To Groove!,
By
This review is from: Two Places at Same Time (Audio CD)
Once upon a time Ray Parker Jr. had a kickin' funk band called Raydio who dropped two ultra-groovalistic funk LP's in thelate 70's.By this (their third release) they'd become Ray Parker Jr. AND Raydio,a seemingly drastic shift in priorities!Strange because this set couldn't have less to do with Parker-his scathing guitar, swaggering vocals and catchy songwriting have smimmied out the window as the band flex their groove muscles on "It's Time To Party Now","Everybody Makes Mistakes","Until The Morning Comes" and the instrumental "For Those Who Like To Groove".Only two songs really remind me of Ray Parker like "Can't Keep From Crying" whitch could've come off of the 1979 "Rock On!" LP and "Tonight's The Night",an updated synth-funker with Herbie Hancock (it also appears on Hancock's 1981 album 'Magic Windows-worth buying) and presents a direction this ENTIRE album should've taken.Sadly this album contains a little filler as "A Little Bit Of You" and the snoozville title song are not very memorable at all.Raydio recorded four albums and three of them are five stars all the way,but on this record Raydio seem to be loosing steam. It proves that Ray Parker was always the brains and body behind the group wheras songwriting went. But the bands tight, solid musicianship, whitch is alot like The Time's sound at certain points, are more then enough to carry this excellent album!

Raydio's third album was proof that this was no flash in the pan group. Ray Parker is truly one of the most talented artists in the music business. The album starts of HARD and doesn't let up. The only thing I think he should have did differently was to name "For Those Who Like To Groove" "Hot Stuff Part Two" which is basically the same groove, still it's worth it's weight in gold!!!
