Editorial Reviews

Review

“Jeanette's writing can best be described as bi-polar: one minute you're laughing at her comical observations on life and the next reeling with conviction from her spiritual lessons. But no need for psychotropic drugs. Just enjoy her wit and wisdom in this delightful, habit-forming book!”
James N. Watkins, award-winning author and humorist

"Jeanette's book is witty, wise, wacky and wonderful--a humorous look at lessons learned by a pastor's wife in a small town in Mid-America.  You will laugh and learn as you read this book!"
Carole Ledbetter, Regional Speaker Trainer, Stonecroft Ministries

“God is everywhere. He’s present in the grand, curious and mundane moments of our lives -- in a disappointing bowl of noodles at a highly touted deli; at a wedding in which the organist is a no-show; at the gravesite of a father who died just when a young daughter needed him most. The vignettes in “Two Scoops of Grace with Chuckles on Top” represent snapshots of everyday life, and Jeanette Levellie reminds us the Lord’s grace and power can be found in each story. Her deft writing gave me reasons to laugh, think, and be grateful. This book is good for the heart.”
Mark Bennett, Columnist, Editorialist, and Features Writer, Terre Haute Tribune Star

5.0 out of 5 stars A delightful inspirational book March 31, 2012
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Two Scoops of Grace with Chuckles on Top is a book of Biblical wisdom gently illustrated through lighthearted true stories that made me smile despite myself. The stories are gentle enough to read to a child at bedtime, yet profound enough to challenge the silver-haired churchgoer.

After reading a few of these stories, I became intrigued with following the challenges of the young pastor and his wife who moved from Los Angeles to rural Illinois. Jeanette is able to laugh at her own foibles, such as when she mistook a heifer for a bull and when she feared a crawdad would deliver a poisonous sting to her cats.

The dialogue within the stories is delightful and realistic. Jeanette's banter with her husband, Kevin, is so real that you will recognize it as conversation in your own home. The stories move quickly. Some of the events are as minor as a disappointing restaurant meal, while other events are as major as the death of Jeanette's father. They are, in their entirety, "everyman's story" and thus are relevant to anyone seeking a light-hearted book rooted in Biblical truths that energize the stories with longevity beyond the events that inspired them. Like Biblical parables, they stick to the roof of the mind until the storms of life wash them down and re-open their life-giving blooms.

If you want an insightful, humorous book for the doctor's office or the dentist's office, this is the book. If you want a dollop of comfort and spiritual inspiration to start your day, this is the book. If you want to feel your lips smiling across your stiff worry lines with that oh-so-good feeling of unexpected relief, you will not be disappointed, for you will smile despite your best efforts to hold tight to your trials. Jeanette has a way with words that surprise the most stoic reader. Her talented son, Ron, has added delightful drawings to enhance the stories.

If this book were a present, the wrapping paper would be whimsical and bright, the box would be truth, and the inside gift would be hope. It is truly a book worth owning and giving to others.

5.0 out of 5 stars Humor + Humility = Huge Success!!! April 5, 2012
Format:Paperback
"A time to weep and a time to laugh..." (Ecclesiastes 3:4)
I love devotionals that wrench my heart, then allow me to belly laugh the tensions away. Not Bible "lite," but Bible right!

In her debut book, Jeanette Levellie uses her STRONG writer's voice to share pastor wife, West Coast, and Midwest stories. Never does Levellie sound "preachy." Rather, she pulls you onto the couch, whisper-giggles one anecdote, dries your tears after the next, always letting the Spirit appropriate a Biblical application.

"Scoop up" this wonderful book, "sprinkle" it liberally into the lives of your friends, your family, and those who may be searching for the Truth in a world void of "sweet"-ness. Don't forget to save a copy for YOU.
