BEST CHRISTIAN ROCK ALBUM OF 2000 (BY FAR)...,
By Josh Mercier (South Florida) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Two Seventeen (Audio CD)
OK, I'm telling you, drop everything you're doing right now and buy this awesome CD. Songs like "AM" and "Forevermind" rock out and get your head bobbing. I don't know why people think these guys sound like Limp Bizkit, cause they absolutely DO NOT! The secular band they most sound like is 311, but PAX217 has a unique sound all their own. Unlike bands like POD and Project 86, who often don't sing very much in their songs (they scream and yell), Dave Tosti of PAX has a great voice. However, the band can still throw in a lot of intensity. The guitar and bass work is excellent, and the drum work is some of the best I've heard in a while. Great songs on this CD include the two I've already mentioned, "Prizm", "No Place Like Home", "Gratitude", and "Skwid". No lie, there are no weak tracks on this CD. If this band doesn't win a Dove Award for Hard Rock Album of the Year, it will be a crime.

don't be fooled by the record label, this band rocks hard,

This cd spins in my car all day. It is extremely well-produced, well-played, and well-arranged hard rock. The lyrics are not extremely deep all the time, but they discuss things that young people think about and deal with everyday. The two most personal tracks on the album are "No Place Like Home" and "Skwid," which discuss how children of divorce face life without an intact family. Other tracks deal with fame, the loss of childhood innocence, and several kinds of love. The style of music mixes elements of punk, hard rock, ska, reggae, funk, and hip-hop to create a sound that is never over-done, but instead sounds new with every song. i hate to compare it to other bands, but if you enjoy Red Hot Chili Peppers, Limp Bizkit, Kid Rock, 311, Eminem, or just like good, fun rock and hip-hop you'd probably like this one. if you don't like rap at all then you'd probably enjoy a few of the tracks, but it is generally hip-hop-heavy. The absence of offensive lyrics, and the presence of a positive message are also huge pluses for twoseventeen. These kids are amazingly talented so its hard to believe this is just a debut. i can't wait for their sophomore effort, but for now i'll just enjoy twoseventeen 'til i wear out the disk.

No regrets!,
By Chris Heeter (Central Ohio) - See all my reviews

I used to like secular bands like Korn, Limp Bizkit and 311. Then when I heard Pax217 on a Christian radio station, I was amazed at how much they sounded like 311! then I looked more into Christian music. I threw away all of my secular CDs and went out to buy the Pax217 CD. When I listened to it for he first time, I thought that 311 changed their name or something because A.M. sounds so much like 311, it's freaky. I can't stop listening to Pax217 now. They are definitly my favorite Christian band ever. I haven't taken them out of my CD player since. I love the songs A.M., Prizm, No Place Like Home, and Gratitude. If you like 311, I encourage you to buy Pax217's CD and throw out all or your secular CD's, because once you hear Pax217, you won't need 311.

Pax 217 comes at you with a hip-hop, reggae, rock mix that will keep you dancing till you drop! I am over all pleased with the sound quality and message that they bring. I have had this cd for over a year and it is still one the of ones I listen to daily. Pax means peace in latin and 217 comes from the verse Ephesians 2:17This cd will keep you bumpin' till the cows come home

Came a long way,

This Pax 217 cd is a great accomplishment for the band. I think that they have come a long way. And this shows the talent that they have developed throughout their history. The guys in this band are the kind of people that you want to hang out with. Their hearts are filled with the love of Christ and they will show His Love.

A Christian mix of rap/reggae/alternative. Between the sounds of P.O.D. and The Channel Surfers with the vocal sounds of Beastie Boys.

Diverse, a must get,
By "ephemeron" ((temporarily), GA USA) - See all my reviews

This band has some real talent! The sounds are so diverse... the melodies take unexpected twists keeping with the driving beats. Though (in my humble opinion) too many of the songs were a little drawn out, it definitely gives you your moneys worth. I can't believe this is their debut album. Their sounds went from Ska, to a Carribean beat, to Beastie Boy, to 311 and all the other bands mentioned in the reviews. My anticipation is deep in waiting to see the depth of their lyrics grow with what the Lord is doing in their lives. There is an annointing and a talent that was a refreshing shock. As a new believer who was heavily into the sounds of the secular music scene, 2 years later God is begining to replace my past loves with groups that are going to bring Him all the glory... (the only reason it's only 4 stars is because I am very critical of the sounds that TRULY move my soul) Way to go Pax!

I got started listening to 311 for a while but I didn't want to buy the CD cuz of all the cussing. This is the closest to their sound I've heard, plus good lyrics!

One of my top ten!,

This review is a little late, but I got this cd when I was working at a local record store back in '99. It was refered to me by a friend that I check this album out. I ditched it within the first ten seconds, labeling them a xerox of 311. Me being a huge 311 fan, I was territorial about a similar band's music entering my ears. I gave the cd a second chance, and it became everything that I look for in a good cd. Rhythm, lyrics, music...EVERYTHING! And they were young at that. Kind of what Silverchair accomplished at their age with their debut, but these guys were a little older. "Sandbox Praise" ended up being my favorite single off the album and ulitmately one of my favorite songs ever. It says what I felt about growing up. Mom fixing you spaghetti and meatballs for dinner, say your prayers, and wake up the next day ready to be a kid again not having a care in the entire world. I think we all want to feel that way again. Like I said, this review is a bit late, but please take my word that from start to finish you will experience the energy. AMEN!

I bought this cd not even knowing who they were...i only heard one song on g-rock one night, but after i got it i always listen to it....they were on the"extreme days" soundtrack and in the movie. the cd starts out with A.M. really upbeat with a really catchy beat.Sand box praise starts out heavy and goes slower but still really good song. Prism is just good it changes the beat a couple of times so it doesnt get old. Check 217 has the prism feel to it just good. Skwid starts off with a small guital solo then drums come in the song is mostly slower then picks up. No place like home most people wont get what this song is saying but its like A.M.. Free to be sets away from the rest of the cd the whole song is slower than all the others. Shalom starts out slow with just a good drum beat then it picks up where no place like home left off. Forevermind really catchy giutar solo then goes to a A.M. like song. Graditude is a really good song that starts out..."fast"...like A.M. or check217. Killjoy Holiday is a good 2nd to last song it has a small part of the of the rest of the cd in it and the robot vocal part was used really good as just saying"electric, genetic, eccentric, and eclectic". Until The Sun is a really good last song because it slows down some but is a really good song and its like 12 min long but the last part of it is a giutar solo. |
