4.0 out of 5 stars Might be too technical
When I found this book I was hoping that it would educate me on how to actually tune a motor. It covers more of how to build a tuned motor. If I were to ever take up engine building I would highly recommend this book. If you are Joe kart racer or Bob moto racer I would put it low on the get list, as it doesn't really give much fingertip tuning tips.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not all 2 strokes
This is not a book for the average mechanic it has advanced mods for 2 stroke engines. I would also say that a lot of the book does not partain to all 2 stroke engines. It has an excellent carburation section. Overall for me I do not think it was worth the money to me.

5.0 out of 5 stars the best "how to" book I own, May 9, 2000
This review is from: Two-Stroke Performance Tuning (Hardcover)
A Graham Bell Gives you what you're paying for; his expertise, advise, and experience. He provides results of his own experiments, formulas, and rules of thumb. I have been very happy with this book, and I am still riding the result!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book on Understanding Two-Stroke Racing Engines, February 28, 2003

Excellent primer on understanding the workings of two-stroke engines for racing. If you are a novice/beginner then this book is for you. There are only a couple books like this ever made and that makes this one well worth the money. I learn a little more every time I read it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great book, January 2, 2002

This review is from: Two-Stroke Performance Tuning (Hardcover)
As a 125 GP rider, I hoped to gain an understanding of 2 strokes and ehat performance mods I could/should make. I also hoped to gain an understanding of the inner workings of a 2 stroke. The book has answered many questions and seeded many ideas. My only complaint is the book references old bikes mainly available in Britain. The principles apply but I'd like to see some updated examples using modern machinery.

5.0 out of 5 stars Removes the Mystery from the 2-Stroke GP Engine, June 11, 2003
This review is from: Two-Stroke Performance Tuning (Hardcover)
An excellent academic book on the theory behind performance tuning for 2-stroke motorcycles. Geared specifically for GP and Kart racers, this hardcover treasure has turned out to be a great reference source for questions on the logic and concepts that pertain to tuning a 2-stroke for maximum performance.

This doesn't always mean maximum horsepower. As is stated by the author, every great 2-Stroke racing machine is a compromise of power -vs- function. This concept alone makes the book well worth the purchase price.

A "must-have" if you race a 2-stroke, especially a Yamaha TZ250 or 125. Includes tons of pictures, charts, graphs, comparisons, numbers. formulas, theory, examples, stories, and more!

5.0 out of 5 stars 2 stroke Bible., August 8, 2008
This review is from: Two-Stroke Performance Tuning (Hardcover)
This is the best book you can buy on 2 stroke tuning. I have read it 3 times to try and assimilate all the information. If you want to modify a 2 stroke engine, this is the best starting point you can get. Well written, easy to follow and very practical. I have many other tuning books, but this is by far the best. Has up to date information and well worth the money.

The definitive reference book on 2 stroke tuning. Very well explained in simple english that is very easy to understand. Gives real world examples and helps you to understand why it is better to get great overall performance rather than just maximum power. You cannot go wrong if you read the whole book before you start your project.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Definitive Work, November 4, 2008
This review is from: Two-Stroke Performance Tuning (Hardcover)
Two-Stroke Performance Tuning

A comprehensive manual on two-stroke tuning. A must have for the enthusiast and DIY maniac alike.

Supplement this with plenty of online material concerning expansion chamber design and you can build your very own stink-wheeling road-rocket.

A great book.

It's the 21st. century and two stoke engines are a thing of the past. In the near future they will be OUTLAWED!

But until then. . .
This is an outstanding book for information on 2 stroke air cooled engines. There are plenty of diagrams, charts, and B&W photos that help to explain the text. I am very happy that I got this book for my tech-library before it went out of print. Lots of good tips for people trying to get an extra 10 or 20 MPH out of their old moped or scooter!
