4.0 out of 5 stars Another strong Cornerstone album, September 23, 2010
This review is from: Two Tales of One Tomorrow (Audio CD)
2007's Two Tales of One Tomorrow is the fourth studio release from Cornerstone, the melodic rock project put together by former Rainbow/Yngwie Malmsteen vocalist Doogie White and ex-Royal Hunt bassist Steen Mogensen. Similar to bands like Evidence One, Jaded Heart and Pink Cream 69, Cornerstone has a hard-hitting yet refined melodic rock sound.

Two Tales of One Tomorrow seems a bit more laid back than previous Cornerstone releases. Human Stain and Once Upon Our Yesterdays had a harder rocking edge to them, but this album is more refined and steers a bit more towards the classic Rainbow and Deep Purple sound. There are more soulful and almost bluesy moments, and a maturity I normally associate with bands that have been around a lot longer. That said; there are some heavier moments that remind me of Pink Cream 69 (this also has a lot to do with White's vocal style), and it's definitely a rock album. I think the combination of harder rocking elements and more relaxed passages works really well, and plays to the band's strengths.

It's definitely a different kind of Cornerstone album, but Two Tales of One Tomorrow is an all-around impressive melodic hard rock album. It should appeal to fans of Royal Hunt and Rainbow obviously, but I can't see many melodic rock fans not liking this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Album of the year!, November 20, 2007
This review is from: Two Tales of One Tomorrow (Audio CD)
I was blown away when I heard this CD. I hear a lot as a reviewer for a hard rock magazine and after a while you stop getting impressed. But this is the best CD I've heard in a very long time. The songs are great, the musicianship is absolutely amazing (the drummer must be Cozy Powell re-incarnated!!) and the production just blows me away.
And no, nobody paid me to say this. :) I just wish that more people would discover this fantastic band.
