Book Description

Forget the grass skirts. Some of the Island's top hula dancers are pushing up daisies.Everyone at Em Johnson’s famous North Shore Kauai hang-out, The Tiki Goddess Bar, knows that the bar’s irrepressible Hula Maidens take their hula dancing seriously. So when famed hula instructors from a rival dance troop start dropping like over-ripe passion fruit, Em and the Hula Maidens go undercover at the Kukui Nut Festival Hula Competition to uncover the killer. Em is once again up to her okole in danger and mystery, not to mention the seductive challenge of working with hunky detective Roland Sharpe, who moonlights as one of the island’s sexiest fire dancers. The hula is lively, the luau is smoking, the mai tais are delicious, and a killer is looking to get away with murder in paradise. Praise for Book One of The Tiki Goddess Mysteries "Fun, charming and full of atmosphere, Mai Tai One On is a delightful beginning to what promises to be a terrific mystery series."Susan Mallery, New York Times Bestselling AuthorJILL MARIE LANDIS has written over twenty-five novels, which have earned awards and slots on such national bestseller lists as the USA TODAY Top 50 and the New York Times Best Sellers Plus. She is a seven-time finalist for Romance Writers of America's RITA Award in both Single Title and Contemporary Romance as well as a Golden Heart and RITA Award winner. She's written historical and contemporary romance as well as inspirational historical romance, and she is now penning The Tiki Goddess Mystery Series, which began with MAI TAI ONE ON.

Editorial Reviews

From the Author

They're baaaaak! The crazy crowd at the Tiki Goddess Bar just can't stay out of trouble. This time the Hula Maidens find themselves involved in a hula competition on their beloved Kauai and through no fault of theirs, hula teachers (kumu) are falling like coconuts. Not only does levelheaded Em Johnson, manager of the bar, have to deal with the Maidens, but the usual cast of whacky bar patrons, her absent minded Uncle Louie, and hunky Detective Roland Sharpe, who moonlights as a fire dancer. If you thought Mai Tai One On was funny, get ready to roar. Don't forget to visit thetikigoddess.com for more information and up to the minute blogs about the island lifestyle.

About the Author

Jill Marie Landis has written over twenty-six bestselling novels but she's never fallen in love with any of them as much she has writing the Tiki Goddess Mysteries. As a North Shore Kauai resident, it's easy for Landis to step outside under rainbows and tropic skies and wander down to the local watering hole or stop by and watch the nearest hula show to find inspiration for this hilarious series of who-done-its. Her love of the island lifestyle gives readers a glimpse of 'behind the scenes' life in a vacation destination in paradise. Landis encourages readers to, "Pour yourself a tropical beverage, top it off with a paper umbrella, sit back and enjoy your visit to the Tiki Goddess."

3.0 out of 5 stars Light, entertaining read.. September 6, 2012
By Tina
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book, like it's predecessor in the series, reminds me very much of the Janet Evanovich Stephanie Plum novels..a little mystery, lots of eccentric characters, a little sexual tension between the protagonist and a fire knife dancing police detective, fairly implausible story lines. It is the very definition of perfect "beach reading," light, amusing, entertaining. If you only like "deep" reads, it's not for you, but if you just want something to be able to pick up and relax with while getting a few giggles, it will do the trick.

3.0 out of 5 stars probably the last i will read in this series January 26, 2013

I really enjoyed the first story in this series. There were too many leaps of faith in this book. With the history of the characters it doesn't make sense that Em would be asked to help out on an investigation. I pretty much checked out after Em and the Maidens get into a physcial altercation at the contest because Em suspects Tiko is the villain. Why would it be necessary to tackel Tiko instead of calling Roland. I finished the book but had lost interest.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mayhem with the Hula Maidens in Kauai June 25, 2012
By J. Boyd
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Em and the Hula Maidens return in the second book of the "Tiki Goddess Series" for more murder, mystery and laughs. Detective Roland Sharpe asks Em to help him catch a murderer and the Hula Maidens are smack in the center of the action. The new character, Pat is a great addition to this cast of misfits. Jill's detailed descriptions of paradise in Kauai make the book a winner, but once she throws in several fun plots, a little danger and lots of "nuts", the book is one of the best rides of your life. I also love the cultural education that is included in both of the "Tiki Goddess" books.
I would recommend that you read "Mai Tai One On" first, only so you can fall in love with the Hula Maidens before the first chapter of this book. But as far as the plot or character development goes, it is not necessary.
Jill has developed characters that can go in so many directions that I am waiting impatiently to see what chaos the Hula Maidens create in book 3. So clear your schedule, buy the book and start reading it today!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as the first one February 18, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
First of all, the paperback edition of this book is only 240 pgs long. $8.49 is still a lot for the Kindle edition, especially when there were so many typos throughout. Also, why did the first book have the page numbers, but this one didn't? I hate reading a Kindle book where you have to use the location or minutes left in the book.
As for the story, the Hula Maidens got on my nerves after awhile. As other reviewers have stated, the drinking and driving gets a little ridiculous and Little Estelle is a really annoying character. Not enough substance to the mystery part of the story and too much attention to the fluff part. Don't know if I'll waste another $8.49 on the third book, since it's a short one, too.

I bought this one as soon as I finished the first one. An absolute joy to read! I could not put it down till I was finished. The plot kept me guessing and laughing. I can't wait to see what the Hula Maidens come up with next!

5.0 out of 5 stars Two to Mango June 26, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
What a great summer read, the 2nd book in the Tiki Goddess Mystery series, Two to Mango. It took off right where Mai Tai One left off. All your favorite people, the Hula Maidens, Roland, David Lederman (the parrot)and some great new ones including Pat. It keeps you laughing and trying to figure out who is causing all the trouble because we know Roland's toe can't be wrong. Jill brings the beauty of Kauai in perspective. She tells of the lore of the island along with what is beautiful can also be deadly. For those that have every been to Kauai you have the memories come right back to you of the lush Hanalei Valley and the pristine beaches of North Shore and those who have not been there the dream of going soon to walk on the shore. If you don't have Mai Tai One get it first, you won't be disappointed. The only down side of this is we must wait till next Summer to see what the next advendure will be. Aloha.

I didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would. I guess maybe it just isn't my style of writing.

1.0 out of 5 stars Found the book distasteful.
I didn't like the book at all. I think it is shallow and puts older women in a bad, pitiful light. I was completely bored and offended.
