Review

A tale of failed justice, vengeance, and love. A wrongful conviction spawns death down through the years. Both tragic and hopeful, Two Wrongs engages the reader's emotions. I very much enjoyed TWO WRONGS. -- Barbara D’amato is a past president of Mystery Writers of America and of Sisters in Crime, author of the Cat Marsala mystery series, as well as several standalone novels.

The author vividly describes the conflict between love and revenge that threatens to tear apart the main character in TWO WRONGS. She does an excellent job of swinging between the two main viewpoints and captures the changes in the characters as they progress from young men to mature adults. She never focuses too long on either character so the tension is not lost, bringing the reader along for the ride. The research is unobtrusive to the plot line and the detailing of Chicago settings give a veracity to the story. -- Martha Powers is a freelance editor, author of the thrillers, Sunflower & Bleeding Heart, as well as several romance novels.

Product Description

An innocent girl is slain. Her brother knows who did it—or does he?

Kevin loses his cool when Mary Alice turns him down for the senior prom. Her brother, Danny, hears them arguing. Later that night Mary Alice lies dead in the alley. Danny is furious and determined to make Kevin pay for his crime, but did he do it?

Prison can transform the most innocent man into a killer, and Kevin is no exception.

Two Wrongs, originally published in 2006, is a mystery including romance, set in Chicago, in the days when Marshall Field's was still Field's, and Chicago basketball was king. Included are Field's references, such as the Big Tree at Christmastime and ice cream snowmen in the Walnut Room, as well as Frango mints.

Morgan's alma mater, DePaul, is integrated into the story, as well as other Chicago landmarks.

This is Morgan Mandel's debut novel. Since then, Girl of My Dreams, a romantic comedy about a reality show contestant, was published in 2007, and re-released Nov, 2011.

In 2009, Morgan Mandel published the romantic suspense, Killer Career, in kindle and print.

4.0 out of 5 stars Tight and True..., April 11, 2006
This review is from: Two Wrongs (Paperback)
TWO WRONGS is a faced paced and direct (and quick) read mystery. With enough convolutions to keep your attention. Residents of the midwest particularly the Chicago-land area will appreciate the attention to local color and detail.

4.0 out of 5 stars Moving Tale of Revenge and Suspense, February 8, 2006
This review is from: Two Wrongs (Paperback)
After Danny Callaway's sister was raped and murdered in an alley outside their home, he provided the testimony that sent Kevin Green to jail. When Green is not sentenced to the death penalty, Danny vows to see to it himself. Little does he know how wrong he was about Green.

Over the years, Danny seeks refuge in basketball, making it to the pros. Green's bitterness over a wrongful conviction grows, and he vows to make Danny pay for the time in prison. Although he landed in a small cell for a crime he did not commit, Green's true nature shows itself as he calls in favors, which will break down the man he hates more than anyone in the world.

In this engaging story, Mandel shows an understanding of human nature. The reader is pulled through a roller coaster of emotion as Danny and Green make choices that will affect the destinies of two families.

"Two Wrongs" alternates between fast-paced action and periods of introspection. The reader gets a chance to catch their breath just as a new scene once again steals it.

This debut novel shows the promise of a new voice to the world of suspense.
