5.0 out of 5 stars Ghoti Hook is Ghoti Hook
I can't see how people can bag on this album so much. In my honest opinion, Sumo Surprise rocked, Banana Man was just a rehash, Songs We Didn't Write showed evidence of the band maturing musically, and Two Years To Never continued that. They aren't punk, but MxPx is?... "Uh oh, not every song on their album sounds the same! Geez, they must not be punk...

3.0 out of 5 stars People need to lay off these guys
I got this album as soon as i could. I was expecting some more rock stuff, but when i got this album it was a lot different than I expected. It wasnt 80's rock like i expected, but a more mellow, yet fun modern rock sound. I wasnt dissapointed at all. Joel Bell's emotional vocals really got to me, along with Mark's great guitar. Its a little softer, but shows great effort...

Geez, they must not be punk anymore!" Grow up. If showing signs of musical talent means a band isn't punk, then screw punk (or at least, your definition of punk). I liked this album just as much as Sumo Surprise, and I loved the distinction between the two. They didn't switch genres or anything as extreme as some of these others would have you think, they just added some new stuff to their sound.

Bottom line: Two Years To Never is good. I think you'll enjoy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Album, December 24, 2002

It's extremely sad that Ghoti Hook broke up. This is one of my favorite albums released by Ghoti Hook. Alot of people were upset that Ghoti Hook switched from punk rock, to a more alternative type sound. I, myself, think the change is great. They sound great. I also highly recomend Ghoti Hook's final release, which was an EP released with Velvet Blue Music. You can purchase it at velvetbluemusic.com

Its a little softer, but shows great effort and lots of great talent. they didn't sell out, and they are not pleasing as many punk fans anymore. It's not my style, but im not going to get into saying this is crap just because I have a bias. It is skillfully played with a few beautiful medleys.

Overall, an average album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nothing else like it, January 8, 2005
This review is from: Two Years to Never (Audio CD)
The album Two Years to Never is one of the best albums I have ever bought. I highly suggest it. Don't listen to what Chris Hunnicut has to say, he's foolish. If you're looking for a great Christian rock album that brings the message and the rock, this one's for you. Also, if you like Ghoti Hook, check out Kutless, because GH isn't making any more tunes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely awesome album-- There's nothing like it, February 21, 2004
This review is from: Two Years to Never (Audio CD)
This is probably my favorite CD of all time. Ghoti Hook really took a huge step when they made this CD, and took a big chance on top of it (as you can see from some of the negative reviews on this site). I can't fit this music into a genre, which is a great thing in my opinion, especially when the music is so good! It's got a little bit of a classic rock or 80's sound to it, but it's mixed with punk rock in such a way that it is still upbeat, driving, and very melodic. All the instrumentation is of a much higher caliber than Ghoti Hook has ever done before, and the songwriting and song structure is incredible. The guitar work is great, especially in many of the songs' bridges where, even if you're a guitarist, you'll find yourself asking "how did they do that?" There are some great solos and smooth chord progressions, such as in "Mach 3". The production is leaps and bounds above Sumo Surprise and Banana Man. The guitars are smooth and full, and the entire mix is very warm. Joel Bell's vocals sit very well in the mix and you can really tell how hard he worked on his voice going into this recording. He's got a great range of vocal styles from his classic growl to a softer sound which you can hear in "It's alright," "Lullaby" and especially "Next to Me." Joel was truly meant to sing this kind of stuff (He always seemed to struggle with the punk thing in my opinion), and this is the music Ghoti Hook was always meant to play. They truly found their sound, and it's a shame that their fan base didn't appreciate it. It's too bad they broke up (After another high quality EP mentioned earlier), because it would have been awesome to hear some of the stuff they could write in the future. This album really sounds like nothing I've ever heard before, and after 3 years, I'm still not sick of Two Years To Never. I hope some day I'll be able to find another CD like this. Until then (And I'm sure even after), it will keep spinning in my CD player.

the only reason why ghoti hook changed is cause someone dropped out of the band and someone had to take his role.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, August 1, 2000

It's hard to believe this is the same band that cut Sumo Surprise and Banana Man. Some of the songs sounded more like big hair rock from the mid-80's than punk. Skip this one if you are a fan of Ghoti Hook, or of punk in general. If you want a good punk CD, get Wake Up Screaming by Slick Shoes instead.

5.0 out of 5 stars SWEET MONKEY!, July 20, 2000
This review is from: Two Years to Never (Audio CD)
WOW...this is INCREDIBLE. Ghoti Hook has matured in their sound immensely...for instance, would you ever have expected a six-minute song from these guys? "Next To Me" is a great song with some awesome female BGVs. The songs "Lullaby" and "Mach 3" are great, too. Not to mention the hidden track where the boys jam out for eight minutes. This is a fantastic album. The absence of Conrad is noticeable, mainly because the craziness of Sumo Surprise isn't there. But I don't blame the band for walking away from their sillyness and moving on to good, mature, rock and roll. 5 stars, guys.

Great Cd. Ghoti Hook has really matured in their sounds. Some of it sounds a lot like Sumo Surprise their first album and some doesn't. I really like the track Lullabye. Really good.
