join the party everybody,
This review is from: Two's a Party (Audio CD)
this 1981 album {re-issued on CD in 1990} is an under-rated album but it contained 2 Top-10 hits. The reason it may be under-rated is because the title track wasn't a single...whatever the reason, this 10 song duet album is a classic. Rafe VanHoy wrote the title track, a song about a couple discovering that they're finally alone after a party: "Two's a Party, three's a crowd, but we can still get down! if we don't wanna get loud we can celebrate the night away and toast the morning light; two is all it takes to make a party last all night". The hits were "I Still Believe in Waltzes" and the geography lesson in song "Lovin' What Your Lovin' Does To Me" {..."our love is hotter than the flames that swept Chicago, deeper than the Gulf of Mexico; sweeter than the sugar cane way down in Louisiana...here with you is where i want to be i'm just Lovin' What Your Lovin' Does To Me"...}. "The State of Our Union" and "If I Ever Had To Say Goodbye To You" are also great. "I'd Rather Have What We Had", a Bobby Braddock song, just might hold the record as the most recorded song that hasn't been a hit single by anyone. George Jones recorded the song in 1983; John Conlee recorded the song in 1981. Conway and Loretta's version of the song is track 4. the novelty of the album is "Silent Partner" and not "Lovin' What Your Lovin' Does To Me", despite what your ears might tell you. While the latter is up-tempo, "Silent Partner" has more silly lyrics than the other. Loretta coos "let me be your Silent Partner, undercover...secret style". The album cover is a bit of a shock: Conway has his hands in a fist, his fingers aren't on Loretta. this may have been his idea or MCA's in an effort to down-play the on-going perverted rumors that they were secret lovers...

I first bought this LP new back in 1981 when I was 13...have loved it ever since and love having it on Cd as well.
Almost any of these tracks should have been a single..I Still Believe in Waltzes made it to #2..there was a huge hit by someone else at number one at the time and kept staying there keeping it from hitting the top. They both sound great and this era of music has always been some of my favortie country sounds..If anyone can get ahold of their 1977 LP Dynamic Duo and their 1979 Diamond Duet...they are both great!! They need to come out on CD's...Loretta still is awesome if you dont have her latest grammy winning Cd Van Lear Rose..get it!I have seen her in concert 43 times and recently twice this year and her voice still booms..wish we hadn't lost Conway bet they would still be recording new cd's. Conway & Loretta at their best!,

Granted, this album is not what one thinks of when they think of classic Conway & Loretta. This album was not produced by Owen Bradley. However, this album does show the famous duo in a newer setting, and updated sound. (It should be noted that this album does sounded dated today, as it was released in 1981.)
This album features material in lower keys than previous Conway & Loretta efforts. My only guess for this would be that Conway Twitty was still smoking at the time. It does, however, allow for Loretta to be laid back and easy in her performances, making these tracks the most conversational of her repertoire. Very nice! All of the songs are great, but the stand out track, in my mind, is the album's closing number "If I Ever Had To Say Goodbye To You." I highly recommend this CD!

GREAT DUET, GREATEST HITS,

CONWAY TWITTY HAD PASSED AWAY. I KNEW ABOUT HIM WHEN I LISTENED TO HIS FIRST HIT LONELY BLUE BOY IN THE RADIO. HE RECORDED IT WHEN I WAS NOT BORN YET BUT I LISTENED HIM AGAIN IN 1976 WHEN HE RECORDED DON'T CRY JONI. THIS IS A GREATEST ALBUM. JOINING HIS VOICE WITH LORETTA LYNN MADE THIS RECORDING A GREAT BEST SELLER IN THE 1980'S. I ONCE OWNED THE ORIGINAL L.P. AND I'M SO PROUD TO OBTAIN IT AGAIN ON CD. THE STAR OF THIS ALBUM IS THE SOUND LOVIN' WHAT YOUR LOVIN' DOES TO ME. I SPECIALLY RECOMMEND THIS ALBUM TO AL COUNTRY MUSIC FANS. A GREAT TREASURE FOR YOUR COLLECTION. LORETTA LYNN IS FAMOUS FOR SINGING THE MAIN THEME OF THE MOVIE COAL MINE'S DAUGHTER, AND JOINING TWITTY WITH HER VOICE WHAT A GREAT IDEA. COUNTRY FANS BUY THIS ALBUM INMEDIATELY, BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE.
