This review is from: The Tycoon's Christmas Proposal (Harlequin Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
Dawson Burke runs Burke Financial Services, like his father and grandfather before him. Having lost his wife and daughter due to a car wreck a few Christmas Eves ago, Dawson pours himself into his work. Profits are better than ever before, but Dawson still blames himself for skidding on the black ice and being the only one to survive. He has buried his guilt underneath work. In fact, Dawson no longer even shops for Christmas presents for his close-knit family. He had put distance between himself and relatives. For the last couple of Christmas holidays, Dawson has gone out of town, alone, to someplace sunny, and had a personal shopper buy and deliver his gifts to his family. But Dawson's personal shopper has recently had surgery.
Eve Hawley is Dawson's new personal shopper. Problem is that when it comes to her clients' family members, Eve insists on face-to-face consults so she can purchase gifts that the receivers will love. Dawson did not want to take the time to stop and actually THINK. That is why he has a personal shopper, right? When his mother uses the "disappointed" phrase to force Dawson into showing up at a charity event, Dawson has Eve go with him to keep his mother from setting him up and to let Eve actually meet the people she would be shopping for.
Eve can see that Dawson has stopped looking forward to life. He did not seem to realize how lucky he was to have such a close and loving family. Since early childhood Eve has been passed around and lived with various relatives. She had always dreamed of birthdays and holidays surrounded by caring family members. And Eve is determined to help Dawson get back what she never had.
***** I am amazed at the talent shown by author Jackie Braun in this story. The characters are well developed, the situations are serious but lively and humorous, and the story just flows smoothly the entire time. This author has a new fan in me! In my opinion, this is MORE than worth your time to pick up a copy of. Perfect for the end-of-the-holiday season, but good any time of year. *****
