This plastic tubing is made of Tygon formulation R-3603 polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and is for use with peristaltic and vacuum pumps in lab applications. The tubing is clear and non-oxidizing to allow unobstructed visual monitoring of flow. The Tygon formulation R-3603 polyvinyl chloride (PVC) construction provides corrosion, abrasion, and flex-fatigue resistance for extended use in peristaltic and vacuum pumps. The tubing is suitable for use with most inorganic chemicals over prolonged periods of time without cracking or deteriorating, and its smooth inner bore allows full drainage and limits particulate build-up. It can be sterilized with chemicals, ethylene oxide (ETO), or autoclaving. The tubing has a working temperature range of -58 to 165 degrees F, a durometer (hardness) of 55A, and working pressure ratings that vary by tube size. This plastic tubing is rated as very flexible as it bends more easily than flexible or rigid tubing. It meets U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) 21 CFR 175.300 criteria for food contact for quality assurance. The plastic tubing is not designed for use as an implant material, but it is suitable for use in peristaltic and vacuum pumps, incubators, gas lines, and drain lines, among other applications.
Plastic tubing is used to transfer liquids, air, or solids, and it is characterized by a round, rectangular, or square shape and a hollow center. Plastic tubing is crimp-resistant and varies in bend radius (flexibility), chemical resistance, wall thickness, durometer hardness, and temperature and pressure handling abilities. The clarity of plastic tubing may be transparent (clear), translucent (semi-clear), or opaque (solid), and the tubing's coloring may indicate suitable applications. Barbed fittings are used to connect tubing or redirect flow in a fluid handling system. Plastic tubing is used in a wide variety of industries, such as agriculture, automotive, laboratory, and medicine. Applications for plastic tubing include blood and fluid handling, peristaltic pumps, electrical and thermal insulation, analytical systems, and food and beverage handling, among others.
Saint-Gobain Corporation manufactures plastic tubing for the food and beverage, chemical processing, industrial, laboratory, medical, pharmaceutical, and semiconductor processing industries under the Tygon brand in the Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics sector. Founded in 1665, the company is headquartered in Courbevoie, France, and operates 45 plastics manufacturing sites worldwide.

I bought 25 feed of the tygon r3603 3/8 ID 5/8 OD off Amazon for $11. The computer store was selling the stuff for $2.50 a foot. I got a great deal. Now Amazon has raised the price to $96 for 25 feet - ouch.
1. More flexible
2. More durable
In addition, there is probably a Tygon offering for every application imaginable.
This is offset by the fact that it isn't always easy to buy Tygon by the foot, although the situation is improving slowly for the more popular lines. Computer watercooling sites tend to fill in the gaps on Amazon, but in some instances, you're forced to purchase in 10, 50, or 100-foot quantities.
If you need/want the benefits of flexible, reliable, industry-standard tubing, and are willing to pay a premium, this is for you. For mission-critical applications (e.g. vacuum, difficult-to-reach installs, food and beverage transfer, etc.), it's a no-brainer. For everything else (e.g. home aquarium tubing, occasional hobby use), it's a judgment call.
22g or finer wire/headpins and any beading wire will still have some wiggle room and slide easily, 20g wire is a perfect fit inside the tubing, inside the bead. :)
