Product Description

This plastic tubing is made of Tygon formulation R-3603 polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and is for use with peristaltic and vacuum pumps in lab applications. The tubing is clear and non-oxidizing to allow unobstructed visual monitoring of flow. The Tygon formulation R-3603 polyvinyl chloride (PVC) construction provides corrosion, abrasion, and flex-fatigue resistance for extended use in peristaltic and vacuum pumps. The tubing is suitable for use with most inorganic chemicals over prolonged periods of time without cracking or deteriorating, and its smooth inner bore allows full drainage and limits particulate build-up. It can be sterilized with chemicals, ethylene oxide (ETO), or autoclaving. The tubing has a working temperature range of -58 to 165 degrees F, a durometer (hardness) of 55A, and working pressure ratings that vary by tube size. This plastic tubing is rated as very flexible as it bends more easily than flexible or rigid tubing. It meets U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) 21 CFR 175.300 criteria for food contact for quality assurance. The plastic tubing is not designed for use as an implant material, but it is suitable for use in peristaltic and vacuum pumps, incubators, gas lines, and drain lines, among other applications.

Plastic tubing is used to transfer liquids, air, or solids, and it is characterized by a round, rectangular, or square shape and a hollow center. Plastic tubing is crimp-resistant and varies in bend radius (flexibility), chemical resistance, wall thickness, durometer hardness, and temperature and pressure handling abilities. The clarity of plastic tubing may be transparent (clear), translucent (semi-clear), or opaque (solid), and the tubing's coloring may indicate suitable applications. Barbed fittings are used to connect tubing or redirect flow in a fluid handling system. Plastic tubing is used in a wide variety of industries, such as agriculture, automotive, laboratory, and medicine. Applications for plastic tubing include blood and fluid handling, peristaltic pumps, electrical and thermal insulation, analytical systems, and food and beverage handling, among others.

Saint-Gobain Corporation manufactures plastic tubing for the food and beverage, chemical processing, industrial, laboratory, medical, pharmaceutical, and semiconductor processing industries under the Tygon brand in the Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics sector. Founded in 1665, the company is headquartered in Courbevoie, France, and operates 45 plastics manufacturing sites worldwide.

Tip for jewelry makers - Since most lampwork beads are made on a 3/32" mandrel, this 3/32" OD tubing is perfect to snip off a little piece and insert in the hole of lampwork beads. Then your lampwork bead won't wobble on headpins or misalign with other beads you might be stringing while making jewelry.

22g or finer wire/headpins and any beading wire will still have some wiggle room and slide easily, 20g wire is a perfect fit inside the tubing, inside the bead. :)

This stuff ain't no punk! Handles a solid 29" Hg vacuum without flinching. Super rigid enough to withstand crushing under vacuum use but flexible enough to run it around and across a workbench easily. Now that I've used actual Tygon lab grade stuff I'll never go back to that vinyl crap they sell out at Home Depot and Lowe's. By the way, it's chem resistant to acetone, toluene and whatever other components are in lacquer thinner. Accidentally spilled some on one end and it didn't even mar the tubing.

Its great tubing for computer liquid cooling.

I bought 25 feed of the tygon r3603 3/8 ID 5/8 OD off Amazon for $11. The computer store was selling the stuff for $2.50 a foot. I got a great deal. Now Amazon has raised the price to $96 for 25 feet - ouch.

Tygon is the standard by which all tubing is compared, and for good reason. It's expensive, but once you use Tygon vs. just about everything else, the value proposition becomes clear. Notably, all specs equal, Tygon tends to be:

1. More flexible
2. More durable

In addition, there is probably a Tygon offering for every application imaginable.

This is offset by the fact that it isn't always easy to buy Tygon by the foot, although the situation is improving slowly for the more popular lines. Computer watercooling sites tend to fill in the gaps on Amazon, but in some instances, you're forced to purchase in 10, 50, or 100-foot quantities.

If you need/want the benefits of flexible, reliable, industry-standard tubing, and are willing to pay a premium, this is for you. For mission-critical applications (e.g. vacuum, difficult-to-reach installs, food and beverage transfer, etc.), it's a no-brainer. For everything else (e.g. home aquarium tubing, occasional hobby use), it's a judgment call.

I custom built my water cooled system 4 years ago. While upgrading MB and video I replaced the first Tygon tubing I used which was 3/8 by 5/8. It obviously worked great with no leaks and no kinks. I chose 3/8 by 9/16 this time for easier routing and less cost. It works just as well and I have no issues with kinking.

I've used this for several PC watercooling builds and love it compared to the rigid stuff you get elsewhere. It's flexible, yet not prone to kinking. Highly recommended. A little overpriced on Amazon, though. (Google it!)

Good Purchase and Quick Ship....tubing just not sturdy enough to use as water line on my LG! Not the fault of the seller though! I actually needed the white sturdy type and just didn't order the right one.
