This is probably the best tying video I've ever seen. It's certainly the only one that I watched repeatedly. Even if you never intend to this style of fly, there's a lot of technique that's good to know for other styles. He explains every step along the way, and makes no assumption about what you may or may not already know. He's an awesome tyer, to boot.

Don demonstrates very solid technques that are easy to follow, understand, and learn. He does assume that the tier knows somethings about clasic wet flies. He does not discuss size of hackle feathers or selecting hackle. He discusses number of raps required for material, but does not explain if overlapping or touching turns... thus the distance covered by the material is unknown. Specifically, when making the tag of the fly.

The video close ups could be of better quality, and who ever is controlling the microphone sometimes creates noise or static.

It is however the best product out there for instuction of tying classic wet flies and I will be purchasing his second video after I complete tying several of the flies in the video.

I've owned Don Bastian's DVD for nearly a year now, and I've also had the privilege of attending one of his weekend-long fly tying seminars. I can honestly say that I learned almost as much from the DVD as I did from an entire weekend of sitting and tying flies with him -- there's THAT much good material in the DVD!

Don Bastian's DVD shows you in clear, easy to follow steps, how to create beautiful wet flies, period! No fancy talk, no assumptions that you know how to do any of the steps beforehand. Don adds plenty of extra tips about effective fly tying and delievers it all in plain English--no hype!

I recommend this DVD for anyone who really wants to learn how to tie wet flies. The skills demonstrated to tie these flies will help you tie thousands of other patterns as well. Bravo!!
