Product Description

Palmer Williams Jr. and Patrice Lovely anchor a powerhouse cast portraying an American family facing the challenge of having a loved-one in the armed forces and many of the hilarious and outrageous obstacles that come with it.

Amazon.com

Tyler Perry is one of the most prolific writers in American film--and for the American stage. I Don't Want to Do Wrong is one of Perry's musical plays, with the signature uplifting Tyler Perry message, delivered in a heartfelt way by very talented actors. There's no Madea in I Don't Want to Do Wrong, but the hilarious Patrice Lovely takes the place of the matriarch who keeps things on track, with sass and attitude. The story is a simple one, centering on what happens when a marriage is strained by distance. A young woman, Yolanda (Alexis Jones), is tempted by an extramarital affair when her husband is deployed to Iraq. She moves in with her wacky parents, Reverend Wallace (Palmer Williams Jr.) and Hattie (Lovely)--who seem to be deeply in love after many years of marriage--but are they? The story is simple, the ending uplifting, and the journey one of smiles and crude laughter, and just a little heart-tugging. If you're a Tyler Perry fan, and you don't want to do wrong, you can't go wrong by watching I Don't Want to Do Wrong. --A.T. Hurley

5.0 out of 5 stars Could this be Tyler Perry's best play ever!? October 27, 2012
Format:Amazon Instant Video|Verified Purchase
A creative list of ingredients that make up I Don't Want to Do Wrong:

A dash of lyrical genius and impeccable musical talent (SERIOUSLY!!!!!!)
1/4 cup of salt and 1 cup of water for all the tears (REAL TEARS!!!!)
1 hollow brain with the voice of an angel
1 scarred soul and hopeless romantic
3 cups of spices, spunk and attitude
4 strong, forgiving hearts
2 tablespoons of laughter

Bake for one hour and forty-five minutes! You will most certainly enjoy more than one serving of this play! Matter of fact, I think I'll watch it again tomorrow... or right now! IT'S THAT GOOD!

4.0 out of 5 stars Marked Improvement Over Aunt Bam's House - 3 ˝ Stars October 26, 2012
Format:DVD
After purchasing Tyler Perry's last play Tyler Perry's Aunt Bam's Place - The Play, I'll admit I was quite disappointed. Tyler Perry has released many plays and films and while they all possess superbly inspiring and ultimately heartwarming messages, sometimes the plot can be narrow. Aunt Bam's Place failed to have the 'oomph' that so many of Terry's plays do, even with its comedic relief; a lack of 'Madea' certainly hampered it. 'Madea' is absent in the newly released Tyler Perry's I Don't Want to Do Wrong - The Play, but the plot is more unified than that of Aunt Bam's House. Add the funny and popular Palmer Williams as well as Patrice Lovely, and the comical presence that lacked some in Aunt Bam's House is atoned for.

The overall theme of I Don't Want to Do Wrong is adultery in a long distance marriage. The adultery comes to head and things become a complete mess which requires much prayer, patching up, and forgiveness. As with the majority of Perry's plays, it ends happily, though if there were a quibble as to the realistic nature, the play could've ended oppositely and perhaps represented the more 'realist' view. Other than an over-optimistic ending, the other rub might be the musical selections. Sometimes the songs come off as flat (in general) in Perry's plays and are more annoying than inspirational as they are slated to be. The songs tend to be 'big' ballads slated in soul/gospel sensibilities, but sometimes don't pack the punch until they are almost finished.

Overall, I Don't Want To Do Wrong is one of Perry's better plays.

5.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly REALLY Good!!! October 29, 2012
By Bailey
Format:Amazon Instant Video|Verified Purchase
I have seen practically all of Tyler Perry's plays and have become accustomed to the thin plots and weak acting deliveries, but the story line in this play was surprisingly good and the actors are actually believable. Even the quality of the singing is MUCH better compared to others of Mr Perry's recent plays. And if you've been nostalgic for Madea, Brown, or Uncle Joe, the characters portrayed by Palmer Williams (Floyd from House of Payne) and PATRICE LOVELY (my new fav) will more than fill that void. While this is still a Tyler Perry play (not Broadway), it was definitely worth renting and has now been added to my library.
PS. Ms Patrice...you totally rocked this play lady!

5.0 out of 5 stars Temptations is the Devils play ground July 30, 2013

I Love these two actors; they are a great team. This play deals with one of lifes daily issues; Is the grass greener on the other side? Marriage is until death do you part; not when the money gone, lost of a job, or even cheating. God can cure anything with unconditional love

A must see.
As usual Mr. Perry dishes out "food for thought" and a "deeep message".
I just love his work he touches your heart, and makes one cry, and then you laugh at always real life situations.
At the end your spirits lifited. Good Movie.
