5.0 out of 5 stars Steering Wheel Knob

2.0 out of 5 stars Should be better made.
When I first reviewed this (a month after buying it), I pretty much said this:

It fits almost perfectly on the steering wheel (a bit tight, as the cushion on the wheel makes it a bit larger, but was ready to pretty much screw the screws all the way through). Spins well, and sticks out very little - especially compared to a couple other spinners I've tried...

I recently had shoulder surgery and one of the worst things about the recovery was my lack of independence - especially my inability to drive! I ended up walking miles to and from the physical therapist - which was fine when weather was OK; but miserable during rainstorms. One of my sons-in-law fitted this Steering Wheel Spinner Knob to my Land Rover steering wheel and suddenly driving's a breeze!! Even tight 3-point turns! It took him about 3 minutes to install and life has changed for the better ever since! I heartily recommend this accessory - I'm not sure why anyone would need it unless you're incapacitated in some way - but I guess even laziness would be a good reason to get one of these little devices.

- - - - - - - -

This is still pretty much true. However, a couple of months later I had the front pieces (the stuff with the print on it and the pseudo-chrome stuff around it) fall off. Turns out they used glue to keep the stuff together, and after three months of use the stuff fell off.

Mind you, It's still usable. I still got the pseudo-chrome stuff, and it spins as well as before. Unfortunately I can't give this a glowing review as part of the spinner has fallen apart.

Five stars for working well, minus three stars for cheap parts. Still works (hence the second star).

2.0 out of 5 stars I had 2 problems, October 19, 2009

Overall the knob works as advertised, but I had two problems with it. 1) The device used to mount the 2 halves together is a very small allen wrench. As the screw heads are on the back side you can't see whether the allen wrench is properly positioned. I stripped the head of 1 screw in the process of tightening the screw and couldn't get the screww alll the way in. 2) The diameter of the opening is too large to snug onto my '97 Ford Explorer steering wheel, the kit should contain more or thicker shims. I'd do alot more research before I'd buy another one.

3.0 out of 5 stars It works, but.., January 12, 2011

The knob works well. It's the firstand only one I have to this point, so my review isn't based on comparison to any others. The pros: The knob works as advertised, it makes taking turns a lot easier (shoulder issues), it looks decent for newer vehicles. Cons: tight fit, hard to screw down because of rubber insert (needed to keep from damaging steering wheel), the center plastic piece popped off (but easily re-attached), squeaky.

The centerpiece popped off, revealing the bolt it spins on. I haven't, but I should attempt to lubricate the exposed bolt to see if it reduces thesqueaking.

Not an expensive item, worth the purchase/gamble.

If your looking for a sissy knob this one delivers. My ony complaint is that the 2 screws to tighten the device down, the hex wrench is so small that stripping out the screws is inevetible. Once it's on don't mess with it, you may only have one chance to get it back off with out cutting the screws.

The overall quality is almost acceptable, the clamp looks sturdy but the knob is made out of a mediocre quality plastic. The knob is also a little bit loose and wobbles when spinning. have no idea how long it's gonna last before it cracks.

This steering wheel Knob looks impressive but just after couple of months the logo plate came of. A drop of Crazy Glue took care of that but still, it should not happened. Shipping was fast, and no complains otherwise.

This item works very well and relieves the stress of arm and shoulder pain, by making it so much easier to turn the steering wheel.

Purchased for my riding mower. Works well. The screws that secure the fastening braket to the steering wheel should be a little longer to accomodate the circumference of the wheel and allow a better fit. Otherwise, for the price, a good purchase.

3.0 out of 5 stars Does what a steering knob should do!, September 19, 2009

It is finished well, and quite strong. I attached it to a Kubota tractor, and the steering wheel is not round; it is a strange ellipse with dips and knobs. I had to force the unit on by really screwing down hard. I thought it would break, but for $9, i wouldn't be out much. It didn't break, it was hard screwing it down and the provided hex heads screws were useless; the heads stripped immediately. I got new Phillips head screws at the hardware store, and it did the job.

It rattles a bit at idle speed, but it very smoothly makes sharp turns a breeze!
