A thorough resource of motion graphic design,
By A Customer
This review is from: Type In Motion: Innovations in Digital Graphics (Hardcover)
A nice book with an ugly cover that contains a wide variety of examples from the motion graphics industry, showcasing the work from e.g designers like Saul Bass, R/GA and Imaginary Forces. A good thing is that it also deals with webanimation and typography in a nice way, instead of just showing motion graphics from the silver screen.

First rate motion graphics/type book!,

This is the premiere book on type and motion graphics. It shows some great student work as well as industry leaders like IF. I find myself constantly refering back to it, for both screen based and print ideas.

A one of a kind book...,
This review is from: Type In Motion: Innovations in Digital Graphics (Hardcover)
The first book I've seen that really gives motion typography the credit it deserves, as an emerging art form. I wish there had been a little examination into how a particular piece's asthetics were devised...maybe a few interviews with designers. A must have for anyone working in this emerging field...

Having seen Matt Woolman's "Moving Type", which is a great resource, I had hoped for similar and updated content in covering this design area. This is a very disappointing book as it seems it is a compendium of advertising for the motion design houses out there with very little to offer aside from screenshots of various projects. You are better off just visiting the websites of the companies covered for free with the added benefit of seeing QuickTimes of the TYPE IN MOTION.

This is book is an addition to the motion design workflow where you can get to know how to use typography in your day-to-day work related to broadcast and motion graphics animation. It certainly has good tips if you want to improve upon the area of typography usage in animation.

Need a jump start or a clean look at diiferent uses of typography. This book is a beautifully designed book showing type in motion on the big screen as well as other formats. I wont give you a definative direction for a project, but there are enough tasty ideas to get you moving.

I saw the first Type in Motion book, and it looked pretty interesting, so I bought the Type in Motion 2 because I thought all this cool stuff has happened between the first and second book. Well, the examples aren't that exciting and the layout of the book doesn't make them more so. If you're looking for inspiration, you won't find it here.

Type in Motion 2 is the follow-up to Mark Woolman's original Type in Motion, the first book to present an overview of animated digital typography when it was published over six years ago. In this volume over 80 projects, from the most advanced studios around the world, are presented in a beautiful book bordering on sensory overload. Over 1300 images of animated typographic images from the Internet, film and television almost come jumping off the pages at the reader. With the sections "Identifying," "Informing," "Storytelling," "Traveling" and "Speculating," the author exhibits numerous projects specific to those topics - frame by frame in most cases - and explains what was needed by the client, the concept to be produced, the process of creation, and the end result. For a designer like myself, specializing in static graphic imagery, Type in Motion 2 is a great lesson in considering the option of potential movement in an image being creating, how that motion might be executed, what movements could be applied, and how the final imagery will impact the communication of the client's message. Those with experience in motion graphics, or desiring a career in the field, will find many examples of challenging concepts, incredible design solutions, and inspiring "eye-candy" in this book of innovative work. - Jeff Fisher, writer of bLog-oMotives and "Logo Notions" on CreativeLatitude.com

This book is missing a key component,
By
This review is from: Type In Motion: Innovations in Digital Graphics (Hardcover)
The title of this book is "Type in Motion," but it's missing just that - type in motion. In order for this book to be really useful, it should have a DVD or CD with image files that can be reviewed. Instead there is nothing but screen grabs, which is interesting but not especially helpful. I wouldn't bother. |
