Very useful product for prepress and graphic designers,

I work in pre-press and graphic design, and font matching and searching has got to be one of the most time-consuming and potentially frustrating tasks.
This is the first Type Selector I've seen like this - it mirrors the Pantone colour chart idea, and overall, it's a great product. The fonts are sorted into serif, slab serif, sans serif, blackletter, script and display, and every entry has lots of information about each font, including where to buy it. While there are a lot of fonts in the Type Selector, there's obviously a limit to the number they could include in a format like this. Still, even if you can't find the font you're after, it points you in the right direction.

Its format like the Pantone guides makes the task of finding the right font, or right direction, so quick, enjoyable and efficient. It is as the names says "the user-friendly font swatch".
I agree with Ramone C. Munoz that it should be printed on both sides but I could not be with a different font because the search wouldn't be straighforward. Instead I would recomend it to have a basic text layout using all the typeface variations (bold, italic, semibold.. etc) -- I missed this feature as, although we can predict how these variations would look like, a real layout using them tells so much about the typeface. Again, as J. Pennington stated, "there's obviously a limited amount of typefaces they could include in a format like this. Still, even if you can't find the font you're after, it points you in the right direction". It has a little more than 200 typefaces. Sturdy - it will last many years.

We bought this as a Christmas gift for my sister-in-law, who is a graphic designer, and we're hoping she'll love it. (: It arrived very quickly and the description was accurate.

A great guide for students. Only suggestion would be to print on both sides of each swatch. You could double the number of fonts persented in the same amount of space. Other than that, great product. Good font reproductions.

I'm sure this product has a use, it's just not for me. I bought it because I thought it would be nice to have a handy little type guide that was easy to transport to client meetings, etc. Unfortunately, I haven't used it at all since I received it.
It's a nice product - compact and well organized. I just haven't used it like I thought I would. |
