Typhoon 3-Piece Cast Iron Pestle and Mortar Set

I grind eggshells to dust in this (to add as calcium supplement to homemade dog food) and bought it specifically because it was cast iron instead of something softer or more scratchable. It suits my purpose perfectly. My only quibble is that the pestle is a little short for use with the larger bowl and my hand then gets in the way. But with the smaller bowl, I find it a fine ergonomic fit.

I like this mortar and pestle set by Typhoon. The cast iron has a rough surface that really grabs the herbs and makes for quick work when I need to crush them. The mortar is small enough that I can easily hold it in my hand to use it, or it is heavy enough that it works well just sitting on the counter.

This is a good mortar set, and for the price it is well worth it. Cast iron means heavy and durable construction. The only strange thing about the set is the pestle. Why the screw off top? With or without the strange little top, it doesn't fit very comfortably in the hand. If you're crushing herbs or spices this is a great little set. If you're doing anything more heavy duty, I think I'd go with something larger.

This mortar and pestle is great - heavy enough to be stable when using, just the right degree of surface roughness to grind spices without losing your spices in crevices such as you might with a traditional Mexican molcajete. Have used for about a month and very happy with it!

This will be the last mortar and pestle (set) you will ever buy. And, when you are done, you will pass this on with with pride and many good memories to someone who appreciates quality - it is that well-designed and durable. The look is simply elegant. This is as good as any I've used over the decades in a life of science, though this one will be used only in my kitchen.
