Excellent for either home use or camping trips, this reversible rectangular grill plate is made of heavy, durable cast iron. The grilling side of the plate is ridged to lift meat, fish, and vegetables above any grease that collects, resulting in healthier eating. The flip side is smooth and flat, ideal for frying eggs and pancakes. Slim in profile for easy storage, the plate is less than one inch thick.
Before first use, the pan should be seasoned over medium heat with an application of vegetable oil. After that, all grilling and frying with the pan requires only medium heat, thanks to the excellent heat retention properties of cast iron. To prevent rusting and to build up a natural nonstick patina, the grill plate should be washed by hand and dried immediately. --Ann Bieri

The price of the Typhoon cast iron grill plate as compared to the other stove top grills is most appealing. I tried just keeping it on my range but since I only have 4 burners that didn't work because if wasn't being used then I had to move it all the time. The grill has to be seasoned before use. That took sometime. Since it is very heavy, it also made a few dents in my stainless steel sink during the cleaning process, so now I'm extra cautious. It heats and cooks nicely. It fits well over my two gas burners. I don't use it as much as I thought, and now I've had to find a place to store it. Great for cooking a lot of potatoes, burgers, grilled sandwiches, steaks and pancakes. However, I have an electric grill and I think I prefer that to this heavy cast iron one.

I bought this for my fiance since he wanted one for a while. I think the key to owning any cast iron products is to know how to care for them. We make sure it is oiled up enough and tempered before use. We have been grilling on it over our gas stovetop and love it. It cooks well and the grill marks are impressive, too :) I am giving it a 4/5 right now because we've only had it a short time.
