About the Author


Richard Davis is a professor of political science at Brigham Young University. He holds a PhD in Political Science from Syracuse University. He is the author or co-author of several books on American politics including Electing Justice: Fixing the Supreme Court Nomination Process (Oxford, 2005); Politics Online: Blogs, Chatrooms, and Discussion Groups in American Democracy, (Routledge, 2005); Campaigning Online (Oxford, 2003); The Web of Politics (Oxford, 1999); New Media and American Politics (Oxford, 1998); and Decisions and Images: The Supreme Court and the Press (Prentice Hall, 1994).

Richard Davis is a political science professor who studies political communication. He is the author of several books, book chapters, and journal articles on various topics including the Internet and politics, the political impact of talk radio, online political discussion, the U.S. Supreme Court nomination process, and the relationship between the U.S. Supreme Court and the press. In addition, he has been a political activist and a consultant to candidates for office. He is a past chair of the Political Communication Section of the American Political Science Association.

If you are a journalist or a young researcher with an interest in political blogs, you might want to check out this book. It gives a rather comprehensive and systematic overview of research results and popular thought on blogs and their role in a democracy.

The bottom line is this: The volume is a solid intro into the political blogosphere for the researchers starting to examine blogs; it also might be thought-provoking for those researchers who've studied blogs for a while. Overall - I'd recommend buying and reading the volume. The volume is among very few books out there that deal with new communication phenomena in a systematic manner.
