Tyr's new Carbon shorts are a solid performing piece of gear. The fabric does not feel like a standard lycra but has a little bit of stiffness to it. Even though it feels like the fabric could be fragile, it is quite durable and I see many training and racing miles in these shorts yet to come. On the swim, they are flexible and stay right in place. The shorts give a sort of second, more slick, skin feel in the water. Out on the bike, the shorts dry very rapidly and provide a nice cooling effect as they do so. The chamois pad also drys faster than any other chamois I have had. The placement of the padding is triathlon specific which is to say that it is extended a bit in the front to account for the forward position on the saddle. I can honestly say that even though it looks like less of a pad than cycling shorts (and it is) it cushions just as well if not better for riding in an aero position. The silicone beads on the leg grippers kept the shorts right in place and didn't ride up or down at all. Running with these shorts is great. To me, I can't even feel that there is a pad there which is a first for any tri shorts I have used. They provide a nice amount of compression and keep your legs feeling as fresh as they can off the bike. They also stay dry and allow sweat, water, sports beverages to evaporate quickly...again providing a cooling effect (so these would be perfect hot weather shorts). So that's about it, I highly recommend these shorts. Oh and for those who are wondering, the grey does not become transparent when wet.

I bought these initally in Jan 2012 as I was preparing for Ironman Florida. They fit a little on the small side but they stretch a great deal. Unlike many tri shorts there is no seam up the middle of the groin area that can rub you until you bleed in long distance rides or runs. The chamois is pretty thin but comfortable riding centuries or running marathons. The fabric feels 100% unique from and other tri shorts I have worn. The material breathes well and literally all liquids whether it be water or sweat just beads off keeping your skin dry, or as dry as possible. I am serious in saying these retain absolutely zero water. The price of entry is higher than most tri gear but worth every cent. I just bought my 3rd set of these last week. These shorts are awesome.

Great quality. I will be running in it for a triathlon in February but so far I've only been training (I'll update the review if I remember).

The only issue to note is that the legs are a little tight if you have big-meatier legs. I'm 5'8", 160lbs, with a 30inch waist . I ordered a Medium and it fits everywhere perfectly, except the legs which are a little too tight for my liking. I have thicker/more-muscular thighs than a typical runner which might be the problem.

The shorts have quality stitching and fabric, so they haven't stretched out from my legs. I'm hoping they'll adjust a little by race day (or that my legs will trim down a little).

-------------
UPDATE: After a bit of training in them, I've had no chaffing or uncomfortable squeezing from the tight thighs. They have stayed perfectly in place and have kept their form after several washes.

The only new issue I'm having is that the chamois tends to hold sweat. I didn't notice it until the end of my most recent 12km run, but I did notice it. I'm still thinking this will be my favorite pair of tri shorts.

I just raced Ironman Texas (IMTX) in these. I got the shorts midway through my 6 month training. They are a tighter fit than other tri shorts on me. I bought a size L, and I am 6'4 / 190 lbs. The chamois pad is thick and comfortable. Here are notable observations for anyone buying these shorts:

- On a long (112 miles) ride I had to apply Vaseline to either side of the crotch area, because the chaffing became really awful on a hot Texas day. Luckily they had it at the aid station when I needed it most at mile 60.
- I bought another color of these same shorts, and wore them to the pool to swim in. The fabric became grey, stretched out, and almost see through in a VERY short time. These are the same Carbon shorts, but a different color. I've worn them many times in the pool, yet they have not disintegrated nearly as rapidly, or much at all. I'm not sure why that is.
- They were a bit tight on the waist area, and may cause some gastro discomfort, or side stitches to those that are sensitive to that sort of thing. I am usually not, but it has happened to me with these shorts on all of my long runs when I've worn them. Luckily I know how to rid myself of side stitches while running. I learned how actually due to these shorts. :)

These tri shorts are good for short distance events. They don't have pockets for gels and similar stuff.

The fabric is amazing. Water (and sweat) just wicks off and keeps your legs dry as much as possible. The silicone beads keep the ends in place. The chamois? Great! Haven't had any chaffing with this tri shorts as compared to my other one from a major compression brand.
