I myself am an experianced 40k player seeking to improve my army but the main reason I bought this set was to get the best value out of what Games Workshop has to offer. Though the new version doesn't have a Carnifex the new rules have adapted to support the Tyranid Prime and It hasn't failed me yet! To those seeking to start their collection, I'd recommend Tyranids for their keen and ruthless unpredictablility and the variety of uses for every single unit. This set will start your quest to consume all life, but you better hurry, The other players are hungry too.

If you are looking to start a tyranid force, look no further. At least $115 worth of models if purchased independently, but DO NOT purchase this box for more than $105, which is the MSRP from Games Workshop. I bought two for $78 each, meaning I effectively got a whole army for half price! That still translates into paying double what the plastic is worth, but you are going to colossally overpay for this hobby one way or the other.

The ripper bases it includes are devoid of style, I didn't use them at all, and isntead have been stockpiling them for some future nefarious plans.

Ultimately, this box will give you the troops choices to field a small army with the addition of a single HQ. Just please read this review and DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT FOR MORE THAN $105. These people over overcharging you for something that is already overpriced!

*Addendum: Price has risen to $125 MSRP from the manufacturer (with free shipping).

Its true that this battleforce doesnt have a vehicle or something "big" but still better value, gaunts always good, the warrior can be a prime, you could make the other 2 warriors count as hive guard, and i love genestealers!

As of my writing, Games Workshop is selling the Tyranid Battleforce at $125. The units in this box, if purchased individually from GW, would cost almost exactly $155 (saving the buyer $30 by purchasing the battleforce).

At $105 total cost, you would still be saving 20$ from GW's price, and 50$ from the cost of buying the same amount of models "as you go."

These are the exact same sets as GW is selling now - they haven't changed since 2009. Go ahead and get one of these, You'll need all of these Meat-and-Potatoes units in your army eventually, and with Nids it's the more, the merrier!

Since prices have been going up on all Games-Workshop products you should check prices and other info at games-workshop.com.
