4.0 out of 5 stars THE FIRST ONE IS FIVE STARS, THIS ONE FOUR, September 12, 2009
I read Christian Cameron's TYRANT and abosolutely loved it. If you like strongly written historical fiction about ancient Greece/Rome/Egypt, you'll love it too. I like it so much, that I immediately ordered the sequel, TYRANT: STORM OF ARROWS all the way from England because it wasn't published here in the USA yet. The second book is almost as good, but gets bogged down in a lot of political/administrative details during the first half of the book, rather than concentrate on action sequences as does the first one. (Of course as one gets older, generally that is true of life -- so it is hard to fault the author seriously for that.) I also think this story hung on an improbable situation -- that the Sakje queen would have been held captive by Alexander. But the battle sequences are superb. And the author makes you care about the characters -- even though there are a lot of them -- and gives them motivations and reactions that are honest and believable. The characters and their relationships are what really make these books stand out from a lot of such works being published today.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Historical Fiction Writer, June 30, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Christian Cameron's Tyrant series of books are the absolute best of any historical fiction writer available today.

The characters are finely drawn and the plot moves along at a riveting pace. The battle scenes are vivid, accurate and realistic in the extreme.

I pour a libation to the Gods in anticipation of book 4 of the series and any other books he has planned!

The research was great and gave us a window into Alexander's Invincibility??? Not much is known about Scythians and Amazons but they were a formidable people before Ghengis Khan and they knew how to to fight these so called world powers eg.Persia,Greece to a standstill, they were essentially unconquerable because they valued their freedom.A lesson for us today.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great sequel, March 20, 2009
Storm of Arrows is a great sequel to Tyrant. Cameron's books are incredibly rich in history and culture. I don't feel like an outsider when I read the book, I feel like I am in their world. Cameron does a great job balancing action, story, world building, and character development. This is some of the finest historical fiction I have ever read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely brilliant, March 19, 2011
This review is from: Tyrant (Tyrant 2) (Paperback)
Best historical adventure I've read in a long long time. The author truly immersed himself in a feel for the period (the analogy with the plains indians is pure genius) and has the style to support it. The characters are surprisingly complex for an American piece, and brought on the page with humor and authenticity. The baqca parts are simply stunning and spot on. Full marks, flying colors!
