These guys know how to par-tay,

Do you like tribalistic soulful House music? Do you like to shake it down and par-tay? If you answered yes to at least one of the above grab this, grab some friends, turn up the bass, turn down the lights, shake yer body and blow your mind!!! This double cd album doesn't just contain House but a magical fusion of that, Break Beat, Electro and Dub...oooh Note. These dudes don't mix a disc each but in fact work in harmony on each...and to great effect! Great selections and tip top mixing. Tyrants residency at red hot "Fabric" in funky funky London town, and that regular monster queue to get in shows their popularity.

It's hard to find good electronic music if you're not the kind of person who just wants to party and get high. I'm talking about musicians/composers who actually USE their instruments to their potential, and avoid compositional laziness (like reusing riffs and samples, standard bass lines, etc.).
Seriously, this CD is a mixed collection of some of the finest electronic music around. Just enough repitition to create that cyclic feeling, but just enough variation to keep things *very* interesting. Original sounds, no cheesy borrowed material, just good solid writing. I am a *very* picky music listener (I used to go into CD shops, gather a 20-high stack of CD from artists I either knew directly or genre's of music I liked, and end up liking *maybe* one CD (if I was lucky). This kind of endorsement does not come lightly. You will not be dissapointed with this CD.

A Tyrant Album in Name Only,

I tired quickly of this album. Although you'll be hard pressed to find a crappy track on either CD, both sets are fairly bland and monotoneous. The mixing and editting is very good, but listening to both CD's back to back is numbing. Occasional a track will give off the impression that it will bust out of either set's thick uniform mold, but it never quite does and that brief spark is quickly swallowed up by the following track.
An interesting product from two DJ's with very different playing styles. I thought this would have been a very eclectic album, but it turned out to be the complete opposite. Not enough groove to be purely Craig Richards, and not enough trippiness to be solely Lee Burridge. Not the greatest combination of UK talent. Both discs get 3/5 stars. |
