I am a big fan of Trading Spaces. I happen to be a new home owner and I am always looking for ideas. I used to watch Martha all the time but once I looked at the designs on Trading Spaces i thought they were much more geared toward how i like to see a room and how i would like to change one without making it look as though my parents lived there before me. I like clean lines, bright colours and styles with just enough edge to make someone come into your house and really see who you are by what you surround yourself with.
I have been consistently impressed with Ty Pennington and how he adds to the designs on the show. I think his book really brings out the creative side that you only get to glimpse in the show. The book is cool, because it actually acts as my one coffee table book (the design is really edgy and fun) as well as my new inspiration for my home. I have gotten so many great ideas from the book that i cannot wait to implement.
There is also entire sections devoted to what i call "what every home owner needs to know" information. there are things like how to do simple plumbing and how to pick out paints for your walls and just about everything else you need to know.
This is a great book from beginning to end. I highly recommend it. Thanks TY!!!

My husband is a home carpenter, a fix it all man. We both enjoy Trading Spaces. I have purchased a few of the other Trading Spaces books, but found myself disappointed. My favorite designers are Frank and Laurie, and I just had no use for the other designers parts of the books, so I sold them off. This book I bought on a lark for my husband, because we both think Ty is hilarious. My husband was extremely impressed with the ideas that were presented by Ty, and the manner in which they were presented. Alot of the technicial advice that lies inside is accurate, and factual and even my other half got some great tips from it. There are some off the wall ideas for decorating as one reviewer said, but you don't have to impliment them, but one can appriciate them as original. This book is great for a starter book, but even a seasoned professional can get something out of every page - a must buy! And if you want to go more into the details of home improvement or decoration I recommend the dummies or complete idiots series. These books are great for the beginner and encompass many different aspects of the areas. From there you can progress to magazines, or books that specialize in your particular interest.

I read through this book in one sitting, and found it to be great. I love the show, and like everyone else, I also love Ty. His new show, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition is also a great show. I was hoping the book had some actual plans for things, or more actual HOW TO's. But, it was filled with Ty humor, Ty pictures, and some good tips on renovating and repair. Maybe I was just hoping to see some tips and tricks on how to actual build some of the neat stuff he builds.

I think we need to get Ty to write a book titled: Ty's Guide to Building Cool Things Easily for the Beginner. And, if he could do it all in the shower like that one picture, it would sell like hot cakes :D :D :D

Anyway, thumbs up to Ty for being a great person and for writing a good book. I only gave it 4 stars and not 5 because it didn't have more information in it, as far as building things which is what he primarily does on Trading Spaces.

I am a huge Trading Spaces fan and love Ty's humor, so I had to have the book. This book primarily focuses on Ty's house and how-to's of projects he used in his house. The book also includes some tricks of the trade and quite a few color photos of Ty and his house. Ty's personality certainly comes across in the book. If you like him, then there is a good chance that you'll enjoy reading the book. If you're expecting a lot of information about trading Spaces, then you will probably be disappointed. If you're a big fan of Ty and want to learn something, I recommend getting the book, especially since the price has now dropped at many retailers.

I never knew who Ty was until he came onto Extreme Makeover Home Edition. Ty is one of my favorite desinger on the show, so when I found out that he had a book out I had to buy it to support him. The pictures are awesome and some of Ty's comment and ideas are good. One of the things I like are the tylights that he created. One of thoes days I am going to have some of my own.

Great job Ty. Keep up the good work and we look forward to some more.

If you are a huge Ty fan I will go head and buy it.

I love Trading Spaces, so I was thrilled to find another Trading Spaces book on the market. I'm glad I bought this, but I'd give it a C- compared to the others. I was hoping that even more of Ty's funny personality would shine through in the book, but it didn't. The book doesn't quite make it as a good how-to manual because it isn't detailed enough. The book doesn't quite satisfy me as a Trading Spaces fan because there isn't much evidence of the show in Ty's book. The book is kind of odd in its approach. I love Ty but I was disappointed in this book.

If you are buying this book to stare are Ty then purchase it, but if you want actual carpentry tricks or repair advice look elsewhere. There is nothing in this book that could not be learned within a ONE minute conversation with your local home repair center. Truthfully, most of his advice is nothing more than common sense. Only someone that has NEVER done a repair for themselves would find value in this book.

I bought the book, like many other's cause I am a fan of Ty. I think that his team and him do an amazing job on Home Makeover and loved the stuff done on trading spaces. I would be lying to myself and you, if I said had I seen the book first I would buy it. I like some of the designs in the book, in fact I am keeping the book cause I like one idea. He has a lot of neat outside the box ideas...like using a plunger to make a light. Aside from some very appealing and interesting pictures of Ty I didn't get much out of the rest of the book.

I expected a lot of home ideas and received a few. I hope other's get more out of the book than I did.

My mom is the type of person that loves the beige. Beige carpets, beige lamps, beige couch, beige walls, beeige everything. I can't get the woman to understand that color is good and that you do not have to spend a lot of money. she is used to doing everything herself. When I found Ty's book I knew it was just perfect. It wasn't only a decorating book, but a do-it-yourself around the house guide that she would for just that reason. Its not like owning a house comes with a manual of your plumbing and everything else that can go wrong. the great thing was that it also had a lot about the decorating side of owning a house. I was enthralled; that is my favorite part.
The book is just so much fun and it was fun to give my mom an early Christmas gift that I have actually seen her use the last few weeks (her house went from a dingy yellow to a nice, light green that really shows off the beautiful lawn).

Okay, we watched TY on trading places, and Home Makeover and really like his simple, nice-looking designs. We bought the book because of it.

Great ideas, simple to apply, and good information.

If you like Ty's work, and are a little bit handy, this is a good book. If you don't know a miter cut from a chop-off, then call a professional!
