5.0 out of 5 stars The Simon Collins Experience
If you loved Phil Collins, you'll enjoy his son Simon in a unique way. U-Catastrophe is a blend of rock, electronica, and easy listening. If you want to hear a drum duet hard rock style between Phil and Simon, start up The Big Bang! If you want to lift your soul and discover secret messages, meditate to "Us-Love Transcends". If you want the best song on the album, cue up...

3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting CD, but not my style
I'll admit--I purchased this because I'm an old-time fan of Phil and I wanted to hear his son's music. There are highs on this CD, especially the duet where both play drums. And there are moments of uncanny family resemblance in voice. Aside from that, the genre of music is much different and not my favorite. It's good stuff and there is real talent here. It's just...

If you want the best song on the album, cue up Powerless. Simon took his time writing and editing the perfect lyrics to match his rhythms. This album should not go unheard. Try it. You will be surprised. His album materials are eco-friendly, his music tells the story of our love, eco, and life that transcends space and time. But this is just what I got from it, experience it for yourself. Visit Simon on myspace to hear some of the songs from this album, start with powerless. That song just rocks!

5.0 out of 5 stars This Album, Is where Simon Collins is projecting his Gifts Fully!, May 6, 2009
This review is from: U Catastrophe (Audio CD)
This 3rd album, as Simon states on his website; www.simon-collins.net, is that he finally felt as if he found his real voice, his true sound! This album, you can feel his songs come out with more direct, in-your-face, and thankful for the trials & tribs in2 blessings thing! Especially with "Powerless" and "Unconditional", also a more passionate side to Simon in the things that are important like "Eco" --a reminder of how we need to look after this planet so it can look after us. Produced by Kevin Churko along with Simon, this album just won the Juno award for production!! Again, simply awesome, and taking after the master himself!

Terrific CD! What a "Chip off the old Block!" Simon is so much more than his "Fathers Son"!!! Do yourself a favor and purchase one for you; and one for your friends.

5.0 out of 5 stars U-Catastrophe review, April 12, 2009

This album by Simon Collins is really good! The first 2 songs are ok. The 3rd song, "Dissapearing" is pretty good. "Powerless" is one of my favorites. "go" I dont like much. "The Good Son" has some good music in it and some good lyrics. "Unconditional" is incredible and my favorite song out of all on this CD. He really sounds like Phil Collins on parts of this song. "The Big Bang" is an awesome drum instrumental with Simon and his dad, Phil Collins playing on either side of your speakers. Eco is a great song about trying to save the environment from big business and reminds me of Phil Collins song "Land of Confusion" from his Genesis days. "Us" is a very good love song. I didn't really like "Between I & E" much. "Fast Forward The Future" is a pretty good song.

As a long time Genesis/Gabriel/Collins fan, i'm always looking for something that captures that same spirit. Simon Collins has produced something here that his father has not in some time-Good, and passionate rock. Much like his famous father's solo contributions, not everything is great here, but it is definately solid from beginning to end. The energy of the drum duet with Phil in "The Big Bang" is absolutely infectious and a little Industrial/NIN sounding. It is refreshing to see that he is not shying away from his affiliations with his father, but embraces them. Simon is onto something and it might take a little longer to break through, but if he continues on this path he might have a pretty promising career of his own in the near future. My fellow long time Genesis, et al fans...overcome your hesitation and give this album a shot. I think you might be pleasantly surprised, enjoy!

4.0 out of 5 stars Very happily surprised..., October 3, 2008
This review is from: U Catastrophe (Audio CD)
I have to be honest, I bought this because I'm a HUGE Genesis fan, and wanted to check out the next generation. I wasn't really expecting much, but let me tell ya, this kid is a phenomenal rocker - and on the other hand, he can pull off a slow ballad. His voice is reminiscent of his Dad, but not always. He can also write a pretty stinging tune - part advocate part environmentalist - he has a message and drives it home. One song has a bad azz drum duet with his dad, another has Steve Hacket sitting in on guitar. Pretty good back up musicians if you ask me. Give this a try, I really don't think you'll be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Progress Made, November 10, 2009

By now, you probably own both of Simon's two other releases and with each release he is becoming better and better. This album is a fantastic album all around from the drumming that he does to the singing and to the lyrics that touch on a wide variety of subjects concerning the world today. If you love Simon's first album which was more pop / electronica then you might not like this album because it took over from his second album 'Time for Truth' and stepped it up ten notches and just rocks out. While he has a couple of power ballads thrown in for good measure the other tracks just rock out and the instrumental "The Big Bang" with father Phil is a killer. An overall great rock album and looking forward to his next.

4.0 out of 5 stars Muito bom, January 30, 2009
This review is from: U Catastrophe (Audio CD)

5.0 out of 5 stars Simon's one powerful lyricist and drummer, November 2, 2008
By
Entangled (Long Island, NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: U Catastrophe (Audio CD)
Simon's tapped into the talent he's meant to have.

Simon's lyrics on this CD are most certainly from his heart and soul. He's written some painful yet humanly understandable lyrics from what seems to have been an emotional meltdown (my interpretation). Every one of us can relate to the various issues he passionately sings about. From difficult strained relationships, how everything we do & say transcends through everything & everywhere we are, admitting his deep inner weaknesses and feeling close to insane, to the reality that our planet is being taken away from us by corporate a--holes.

You have to listen to "The Big Bang" if you're a drummer or have a deep respect for drummers. Here you listen to and feel both Simon & his "Pops" (Phil Collins) powerfully play. Each comes out of a different channel, Phil on the right and Simon on the left. When I listen to it in my Jeep, I can literally feel the drums just rockin out.

This CD honestly deals with certain feelings we've felt at one time or another. Or perhaps are now dealing with? Maybe he should have been a therapist too? ; )

Simon! You Rock!!
