This review is from: The U.S. 8th Air Force in Camera: D-Day to Ve-Day 1944-1945 (Hardcover)
All my life, I was aware that my father served in the "Mighty 8th as a navigator" aboard a B17. My father never talked much about his time in the service, though I heard just enough to peak my interest. I have looked through dozens of WWII books trying to find out more information to no avail. It was with this book, in just one hour of standing at the bookstore, leafing through the pages that I not only found out the Bomb Group and the Squadron in which my father served, but also the actual plane he navigated! There was even a picture of this bomber in action. This book is filled with 100's of pictures each with very specific captions. Each caption detailed the BG and squadron of each plane pictured, and in many cases the crew and the fate of both. There is also an excellent Index so it is quite easy to cross reference each picture with others that relate to like service elements. As an individual with no military background, I found that this book made for facinating reading for anyone interested in the "Flying Fortress" and the crews that flew then. More than any other WWII "B17" type books, this one put a human touch to the people who served in the "Mighty 8th" and gave enough "numbers" detail to allow for fact finding.
