3.0 out of 5 stars Not of general interest, March 26, 2009
This review is from: U.S. Army Counterguerrilla Operations Handbook (Paperback)
The more common interest these days is counter-insurgency, and the big picture of what is going on in Iraq, Afghanistan, and other places around the world. This is very much the fine detail and not the big picture, like The U.S. Army/Marine Corps Counterinsurgency Field Manual.

For what it is, it is good. It is small unit tactics for fighting organized irregular units. It is not about hunting the criminals who plant bombs and murder civilians, but about the units that have a command structure, wage hit-and-run warfare, and rate recognition under the Geneva Accords rather than engage in terrorism. Run of the mill stuff, ambushes, counter ambushes, raids, etc.

It's specialized, and good within its limits, but very limited.

E. M. Van Court
