My son has no patience for sit down and read a textbook so I'm going to use this book and another in the series in our homeschool this year. The information on each person is very basic so I will probably use a storybook about each person as well..

I've read and re-read the instructions for assembling the mini books, and I cannot make sense of them. They do not go in order and they can't be easily read if I follow the directions, or any other way that I see...

Okay, I fixed my review as in the following comment. Ooops, my fault.

I used this book for history last year when home schooling my daughter. It's true the instructions on how to make the books are sometimes off or not clear, but really it's easy to figure out how to make them. (How hard can it be to put together a book?) What I like best about this is the simple stories that cover the most famous people in American history. The stories are a bit dry & facts driven, so I suggest supplementing with children's illustrated biography books from the library. I also like that children get to make a book about the character after each story is read, so it's very hands-on, and kids love making books. Kids can read the books they made when finished, which re-enforces what they've learned. The downfall with this was at about 1/3 or 1/2 way through making books, my daughter got a bored with it, though she was excited about it at first. Still, it's a great concept to instill learning, and if they get bored I suggest kids do role-plays or charades of the stories & characters.

This is a fun and creative way to share information about famous people. My 2nd graders enjoyed making and reading their books.

I have been homeschooling for seven years and this it's the most frustrating book I've ever bought. The lessons are fine but the activities that go with are terrible. The instructions make no sense. The little books are impossible to put together orderly. I am seriously counting down the days until we are done with this book.
