5.0 out of 5 stars My reference book!
Well organized and written, with just enough information to bring all options to the attention of the reader. Easily read and referenced, and quite comprehensive in coverage. Rare will still be the cases in which one can really do away with counsel, but it will make one a better informed client. I particularily liked inserts on new legislation and policies (helped me...

3.0 out of 5 stars Seems great but be careful
If you just read this book, it seems very helpful. The language is simpel, and the authors know what they are talking about. But the information regarding some forms is insufficient. An example: about form G325A the book says: "The questions are self-explanatory." But I have no idea what to fill in at "File number A-". File number? Same form says...

If you just read this book, it seems very helpful. The language is simpel, and the authors know what they are talking about. But the information regarding some forms is insufficient. An example: about form G325A the book says: "The questions are self-explanatory." But I have no idea what to fill in at "File number A-". File number? Same form says "Submit all four pages of this form." But the form in the book contains only one page. If you visit the INS website, you'll find four pages. But the INS nor this book explain what to do with two of the four pages after you filled in one for yourself and one for you relative. It would be nice if people who bought this book, got an opportunity to ask these simple questions on Nolo's website, but that doesn't seem possible. I'm afraid I need an immigration lawyer after all.

5.0 out of 5 stars My reference book!, July 19, 2002

Well organized and written, with just enough information to bring all options to the attention of the reader. Easily read and referenced, and quite comprehensive in coverage. Rare will still be the cases in which one can really do away with counsel, but it will make one a better informed client. I particularily liked inserts on new legislation and policies (helped me guide my own process), explanations on rights and obligations associated with each status, and the exhaustively explained steps and paperwork associated with the process. All editions so far have had upgrades to stay current with the ever changing policies and INS quirk "du jour". Although I do own several older editions, I typically make a point of getting a new edition every couple of years, in order to stay current on my rights as a foreigner in the US.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Immigration Book, November 27, 1997
By A Customer
This is the best book ever that deals with US immigration. It is like a cookbook very easy to use step by step. The book classify all immigration cases. For a particular case, the book provides a summary of the case, solution, approach, how to file, and the time-frame to complete the case. I have read the 5th edition. It is great. I can not wait till the next edition (6th) comes to buy it for myself as a valuable reference.

5.0 out of 5 stars US Immigration Made Easy, October 17, 2003

This book has been invaluable in dealing with my family's immigration needs. It gave great assistance in bringing both my parents and my grandparents into the country legally, without having to spend too much time with legal aid lawyers. My community has many people requiring this help and I have passed this book along to them. Thanks for this guide.

5.0 out of 5 stars A difficult process truly made easy!, March 5, 2005
By
chasingsirens (Kansas City, MO) - See all my reviews
I was so pleased when I stumbled across this book in my local library.

U.S. Immigration Made Easy is a godsend. It honestly has everything you'd ever want to know about every type of visa out there. It's all here, in black and white, and not in confusing legal mumbo jumbo. There is a section on each visa and its process, and at the end of each section there is a checklist with all the documents you would need. There is even an appendix of tear-out forms you can actually use. How convenient!

Organized, easy to read, and easy to understand, this book truly makes the tedious and frustrating process of immigration seem more doable and less overwhelming. Highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars I think Nolo's title is misleading, August 12, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: U.S. Immigration Made Easy (Paperback)
This book is well-written, like all of NOLO's books. So if you want to attempt applying for legal US status, this is a good way to find out more about the process. In the end, though, I think this book only reinforces the horrible tangle of US immigration and how difficult it is to navigate those waters. It explains enough to make you want to go out and get a lawyer!!

1. First, the title is misleading. I understand that they want to sell books, but there is nothing about US immigration that is "easy". And this book won't help you if you are already in the country without papers. Just move on.

2. Second, NOLO excels at simpler legal matters, like how to fight a traffic ticket, or how to be a better landlord. Immigration is a much tougher beast. I'm not sure that any book can really be comprehensive enough to do the job.

3. I think that Nolo needs to be a little more forthright about the fact that this book will not help the majority of people that are trying to obtain legal status, and even those who are here legally (like students) probably won't be helped by this book.

4. The number of glowing anonymous reviews is suspect, although it is possible that the posters are posting their reviews anonymously because they are afraid that somehow someone will be able to trace them. I have found that immigrants tend to be a suspect bunch (my parents are a prime example!).

Now, despite all of these shortfalls, I still feel that the book deserves 4 stars. Why? Because Nolo's book is still the best one out there. I can't recommend any book that's better, which is unfortunate. So, if you are looking for a book on Immigration, buy this one. The Nolo press book on Fiancé visas is the best on the market, too, if your particular situation applies.

1.0 out of 5 stars BEWARE! Kindle selling an old edition of this book, March 23, 2011
If you buy the paperback edition, you will receive the new, 2011 ed. of a book which cites laws that change almost daily. The Kindle edition, however, is an old edition, citing laws which are no longer applicable to the immigration process.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Resource On The Immigration Process, April 14, 2010
By
Carlos Batara (California, USA) - See all my reviews
U.S. Immigration Made Easy lives up to its title. Since I'm an immigration lawyer, I'm asked by some clients if they handle cases on their own. I tell not exactly "alone" - but if they use the help of Nolo's materials like this book, there are many immigration forms they can prepare on thier own.

I read a lot of books on immigration. Like the entire Nolo series, this is a great book for basic immigration concerns. Of course, many immigration procedures are complicated. Still, I think quite a few persons could guide their own cases through the immigration process with this book. The authors are careful to point out when an attorney's advice will be needed.

Even if someone is going to hire an attorney, reading this book will help a client ask better questions to make sure they're getting what they're looking for when they hire someone to help guide them through the immigration process.

5.0 out of 5 stars Invaluable Resource!, August 26, 2002
By A Customer
My husband was born in Pakistan and isn't a U.S. citizen. Due to September 11 and the unstable economy, we have decided to change his status. U.S. Immigration Made Easy has given us a lot of great pointers on the process and how to best fill out all the necessary forms and paperwork. This book has been a great find. I just bought 3 additional copies for my husband's family!

The book is quite basic. It will be helpful to people who are starting out on the subject. I was looking for information on the Cuban Family Reunification Parole (CFRP) Program and it had nothing on the subject!

I wish there was a more comprehensive reference for non-practitioners.
