4.0 out of 5 stars An overview of the USMC, its mission and methods, July 27, 1998
This review is from: U S Marine Corps (The Power Series) (Paperback)
As an overview of the contemprary US Marine Corps, this book does a credible job of decribing the mission and weaponry of this elite branch of the US Armed Forces. Using well-organized, concise descriptions, the author leads the reader through the Marine Corps' traditions, philosophy, and organizations. From boot camp to Command and Control, the Ground Combat Element and Marine Air, the reader is treated to numerous, relevant full-color photos of the latest technology and equipment. There is a short section on the history of the Corps, but this is not a book about battles and heroes. It is a concise, quick read with enough information to clarify some misconceptions about the Corps as it pays tribute to this often-misunderstood branch of the armed services. A must-read for anyone who ever wondered what Marines do, and what makes them special among all the fighting forces of the world.
