From School Library Journal
Grade 7-10 In nine short, well-researched, and clearly written chapters, Wolman discusses the historical background of the U.S. Mint, the need for standard coinage, the crisis of the monetary system during and after the Civil War, and the development of the Mint's responsibilities through the 20th Century. He links the information directly to the events in history and includes many less known but interesting facts, such as Theodore Roosevelt's unsuccessful attempt to exclude ``In God We Trust'' from the coins. The book will serve as a good research tool, as it is well illustrated with examples of coins. Much of this information can be gleaned from encyclopedias, but this will still be is a good choice for reports. Miriam B. Hansen, formerly at Eau Claire Public Schools, Wis.
