Great for the price
on April 9, 2013
Alright, the first thing that needs to be said is that this is a $20 watch. That should be obvious, but some of the reviewers don't seem to know that.
The watch arrived very quickly in a nice leather(ish) blue box. The face is huge. It has a 2-inch diameter. The big knob on the right side adds to it, giving it a total width of almost 2 1/2 inches. The band is very thick, making it slightly hard to adjust. But once you've worn it a few times, the band "remembers" where it's supposed to go, and it goes on fairly easily.
The two knobs on the left side do absolutely nothing. The top knob on the right side does nothing. I haven't figured out what the purpose of the giant knob is. The one on the bottom right is what you use to adjust the time.
Alright, on to the positives. I wanted a big black watch that I could wear everyday. I have an Invicta Grand Diver, but it is a metallic watch with a big yellow face. I wanted something a little less "flashy" to wear to class and just to wear around town. I also wanted something that I could fit somewhat tightly to my wrist, so it doesn't move around while I'm typing (I'm a programmer). I really, really love this watch.
Some people have had problems with the band snapping. I haven't had any issues with it. It actually feels pretty sturdy to me. The two little button-type things on the band next to the place where the band attaches to the body are a little loose. It doesn't bother me, and they don't really serve any purpose. If they were taken off, the watch would still stay together. I just thought I'd mention it, in case you are after craftsmanship.
So to summarize, this is a great watch for only $20. It keeps the time, it was inexpensive, and it looks amazing (...like, really amazing.). My advice is to make the leap and buy it. I would definitely buy it again. But if you do, don't compare it to a $100 watch. Compare it to the $15-$20 watches at Walmart. It blows them away.
Okay, so I may have overestimated the quality of the watch band. The part of the leather that wraps around the buckle snapped when I was trying to take the watch off. Admittedly, I may have been a little rough with it, but upon further inspection, that section of the leather is incredibly thin. Fortunately, I happened to have some Gorilla tape lying around. I just put a little strip through the buckle, and it seems to be strong enough now. Also, that section is covered up by the rest of the band when it is worn, so no one can tell the difference.
I lowered my rating, but I still think it's worth 4 stars. I still really like the looks of it, and I still recommend buying it. Just be a little careful with it until you get more familiar with its design and strength.
