2.0 out of 5 stars Obsolete, July 13, 2000
By
This review is from: U.S. Army Special Forces Medical Handbook (Paperback)
This is a civilian reprint of the 1983 ST31-91B. The issue version with it's waterproof pages is a collectors item and not worth much else. Both versions are now very outdated in much of their treatment and management of illness/injury. Frankly when I first got the book in 1983, I didn't find it's sparse outline presentation of information very useful. You can find more current information, better presented in some of the newer books on Wilderness Medicine

1.0 out of 5 stars Out of Date, September 16, 2010
This review is from: U.S. Army Special Forces Medical Handbook (Paperback)
This handbook was great in its day, but is now woefully out of date. The most up to date publication of this nature is the Special Operations Forces Medical Handbook, 2008, edited by COL Rocky Farr and others. It is a hardcopy and is available through the Government Printing Office for $59.
A new DVD version of the Special Operations Forces Medical Handbook was published in August 2010 by the Government Printing Office, and is available from them for $25. It contains additional information on trauma, pediatrics, infectious diseases, dermatology. In addition, it has 1,400+ clinical photos and illustrations, and 100 videos.

This review is from: U.S. Army Special Forces Medical Handbook (Paperback)
I've had this manual for years, and referenced it when taking the 18D preparatory course. Problem is it's obsolete. Get the Special Operations Forces Medical Handbook, 2nd edition. Available from Government Printing Office for $60. Up to date and excellent format.
