Book Description

August 1, 2004 1402202903 978-1402202902 1
A lot of people decide they want to become doctors in high school-or sometimes at age 5. But medical school will take at least 7 years of your life, you'll have to compete with 40,000 other people to get in, and it could land you more than $100,000 in debt by the time you're done.

For those brave enough to take the challenge, the U.S. News Ultimate Guide to Medical Schools combines expert advice on how to get into medical school, U.S. News' exclusive lists that help you compare schools and data on the nation's medical-school programs.

Featuring expert advice on how to choose the right school, how to get in and then how to pay for it all, this step-by-step guide is a life-saver for the life savers. It explains:

- Why not all schools are equal and how to pick the best match for you
- The art of getting in, including succeeding at the MCAT, writing the personal essay and what admissions officers really look for and what they hate
- Exclusive profiles of five top medical school programs
- A complete directory featuring contact info, information on cost and financial aid, MCAT scores of students and more

4.0 out of 5 stars Great item, especially for those interviewing, December 17, 2005
By
This review is from: U.S. News Ultimate Guide to Medical Schools (Paperback)
This is a great book.
It has several lists that describe schools, most/least expensive, most/least diversity, most/least loans, most/least financial aid, most/least minorities, you get the point.
The lists are interesting and they provide a great deal of information about the school.
What is really great about this book is the description of each school, with its stats and US news and WR ranking (so you don't have to buy the magazine that ranks other schools as well).
In addition, it gives you detailed information about how many students applied, how many interviewed, and how many got offered a spot post interview (this latest part is not present in the official AAMC guide to medical school).
So, if you are interviewing at a specific school I would def recommend this book.
It will help you on your interview about specific school info, as well as put your mind at ease and show the real deal as far as your chances of getting in once you get offered an interview.
It's a tough process and very nerve wrecking, I am lucky cuz i'm done early (just got two acceptances).
To everyone out there who is pre-med, applying or interviewing. GOOD LUCK.
I hope this helps.

4.0 out of 5 stars Helpful in deciding where to apply, December 2, 2006
By
This review is from: U.S. News Ultimate Guide to Medical Schools (Paperback)
This book contains information that is very similar to the book published by the AAMC, Medical School Admissions Requirements (MSAR). The most important information contained in this book is the data on in-state and out-of-state acceptance rates. As a result, I knew which out-of-state medical schools were worth applying to (UMich, UCSF) and which ones were not (UC-Irvine). I would recommend getting either this book or the MSAR.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: U.S. News Ultimate Guide to Medical Schools (Paperback)
Purchased this book to help our daughter decide which medical schools to apply to. Very informative with statistical data as to what each school looked for in regards to MCAT scores, GPA. Also gave stats on the number of interviews granted, acceptance rates, broken out by male/female, minority, etc. There is also a summary of current students' comments on how they felt about the school. Well worth purchasing.
