Biography

Isaac Hayes is known to millions today as the original voice of Chef from South Park, but in the 60s he was a songwriter and session musician for Stax Records, and in the 70s a prominent and influential soul and funk singer.

As a songwriter, he notably wrote (with David Porter) "Soul Man" and "Hold On, I'm Coming" for Sam & Dave. In 1968 he released his debut solo album, and then his masterpiece… Read more in Amazon's Isaac Hayes Store

Editorial Reviews

Digitally remastered edition of this 1986 album from the Soul giant. Isaac Hayes had a long and distinguished career as a songwriter, producer and recording artist. From an original session musician with Otis Redding at Stax to his iconic '70s movie soundtrack for Shaft to the voice of Chef in South Park, his career was colorful to say the least. The group Surface were label mates and off a huge hit with 'Happy' partly co-wrote and produced songs for this album. The album combines dance and ballad styles of the day with Isaac's unique vocal gracing each song. A treat for all Isaac Hayes fans. --This text refers to an alternate Audio CD edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars At Last Found It..Thank 'God', April 6, 2011

This review is from: U Turn (Audio CD)
By now it is indeed a well known fact, that I am truly a Isaac Hayes Fan 400% plus and then some. This U-Turn CD was something that I have been looking for since I left "Tajon, Korea'1987'. It has been truly a nightmare trying to find this CD. I have not a clue as to why it was so hard to find for many years.24-years I have looked and called all over the USA, until January 2011. I found this U-Turn CD on a London web site. I was not really pleased at the response I got back from them everytime I would e-mail them a message. So I kept thinking If this overseas web site has found this U-Turn CD, It is for sure in the USA somewhere. So as I always do the one and only "Amazon.Com I checked with them and I found it.I thank God for the effort and amazon.com for the effort. This CD means the world to me. I found it one day when I was stationed in South Korea at the PX in 1987. I truly enjoyed this great style of music by Isaac Hayes just about everything he has made I have it in my collection. I really miss that he is no longer with us on this earth. That is a great voice we will never forget, I promise 400% Plus. May God rest his soul.It is real hard to belive that he is gone. I get water in my eyes just talking about the man with the sincere voice. The day I found out he was gone, I cried if though I had known him as a family member. It really hurt me badly. He has been in my music collections for many, many, many, many long years. However I was taught as a child, that God knows his business. "RIP" Brother Isaac! This is a Great CD of them all I think......Yes indeed

5.0 out of 5 stars The comeback album that never was., July 22, 2008

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: U-Turn (Audio CD)
In 1986, Isaac Hayes signed with CBS Records and many hoped he would make a big comeback. Despite containing some great songs, superb production and strong and passionate vocals from Isaac this CD was very poorly promoted and it failed to get the radio airplay it deserved. Standout numbers featured include "If You Want My Lovin', Do Me Right", "It Never Rains In London", "Thank God For Love" and Isaac's crushingly soulful remake of "Hey Girl". "U-Turn" may well be one of Isaac Hayes' most obscure and underrated albums but it's well worth getting if you can find it.
