Fun way to start the college search!,

This review is from: THE U: UNCUT - College Tour DVD Box Set (DVD)
These DVDs are awesome!! So much better than the brochures from colleges that show only the best parts of the school without any of the bad stuff. I like hearing students talk about their real life on campus- the party scenes, the general attitudes (competitive or laid-back), if there are cool professors.... stuff like that. I've started considering schools I hadn't thought of before after watching these videos. And getting a whole profile of a school in 15 minutes is way easier than trying to visit all of these places. WAY MORE FUN than reading those awful books that don't tell me anything but statistics. The best $50 I've spent in awhile...

What a great product!!,
This review is from: THE U: UNCUT - College Tour DVD Box Set (DVD)
I was unsure of where I wanted to go to college, and I did not want to drag my parents to lame tours all over the USA. So I bought this box set of DVDs and it was so rad. It has insight from real students of 50 big name colleges and shows you what no college tour will: the party scene, the truth about teachers, student population, etc. I recommend this to any high school senior who wants an insider's look into what a school is like before you go.

The Reality of College,
By Tyresius (Houston, TX) - See all my reviews

Applying for college is not a fun process. It's a lot like shooting blindly in the dark and unless you know someone who went to a certain school (and who doesn't have a vested interest in boosting a school's rep) you generally have no0 clue what to expect. The U pulls no punches and interviews real students who aren't afraid to talk about good and bad. It talks about everything from what the professor's are like to the comfort factor to hook-up and paints a picture for you that you might not get anywhere else. If you want real answers this is the place to go.

Great, incredibly helpful tool,

I found it incredibly refreshing. TheU's DVDs really helped me with my college search; I was able to save a boatload of money and time by just picking up the DVDs instead of going to visit these places. They're very well produced and include pretty much all of the most popular schools in the country. They were invaluable tools in helping me to decide to head to Princeton.
The best part of it is the fact that they really give you the whole picture of all the schools; they include all the stuff I really wanted to know. The party scene, the social scene, the various clubs nearby, how the campus food is--it's all on there. GREAT production, very professional, the hosts from the WB are good. Overall, if you're a student or a teacher or a parent, or, even a student in college who is maybe thinking of changing, I'd definitely recommend TheU's DVDs.

A new kind of college tour,
By Laura (New York) - See all my reviews
This review is from: THE U: UNCUT - College Tour DVD Box Set (DVD)
These videos really give you a new way of looking at colleges, it helps that they are put out independently and not sponsered by any of the colleges themselves. They also gave a really good idea of what the areas around the colleges are like, and what kinds of students go there. It is a completely different kind of tour than you would get by going to the school with your parents.

I just got these DVD's in the mail and what a godsend! I've been stressing about college for a few months now in preparation for applying in the fall and I must say that this has been my best purchase so far. I can't afford to go visit a lot of the schools around the country but the U's DVD's have helped me get a sense of what the campuses really are like without having to pay hundreds of dollars on airfare! Seeing it on film versus campus catalogs really makes a difference. The best part is how this is a no holes barred look at college life by students. They tell you all the dirt the college admissions people don't want you know about: what the parties and academics are really like. My brother looked at the video about his school and said they characterized it perfectly. I'm so so glad I bought the series. It's a fun way to narrow down college choices - which for me was oh so important - and it really helped give me a much better sense about which school would be the perfect school for me. now i only have to get in.... these DVD's are a must have for anyone applying to college in the fall! If you are choosing between this and other guidebooks, buy this. it's more fun, hip, and honest than any of the books I've been reading this summer. you won't regret it!

I loved the box set because it told me what the printed handbooks told me and so much more. The handbooks are useful in their own right, but they don't cover all aspects of college life like these DVDs. The DVDs offer insights into Greek Life, student body and academics that would be impossible to convey in writing alone. How can you get a sense of a college's social scene from a couple of sentences in a book? You can't.
Rather than spitting numbers at you, one useful feature of the DVDs are the "UNCUT" and unedited interviews of students and faculty. Students and professors, reveal the gory details that admissions officers don't want you to know about; one particular student described his school's locale as "dirty and industrial," an accurate description. This box set did 4 things for me. It narrowed down my choices, helped me better understand what college is about, made me want to research more, all while keeping me entertained. If you're looking for an upbeat, interesting and informative way to get through the arduous college selection process than this "College Tour DVD Box Set" is a must have. |
