5.0 out of 5 stars You gotta see this just for the "I will Follow" video!!!
I was not a big fan of U2 when I lived with my parents and they had cable, so I never really saw their videos much. Now, as a "grown up" (snicker) I do not have cable, but I am a rabid U2 fan.

This compilation was the perfect thing...I own all their CDs and now I can see a lot of their best early videos. As much of a fan as I am, I can still be simply...

2.0 out of 5 stars Missing several hidden videos.
Decent compilation, featuring most of their 80's classics, but what is simply unforgivable is not including the whole video stuff from 80's. 'Gloria', 'A Celebration', 'Two Hearts Beat As One', 'A Sort Of Homecoming', 'Bad' (the old video, not the well known Rattle & Hum Version - you can watch it on www.poplemon.com), 'Spanish Eyes', 'Red Hill Minning Town', 'In God's...

As much of a fan as I am, I can still be simply awestruck as I hear them sing and watch Bono sing his heart out to songs like Pride and Bad. It is a joy to see how they developed from wild young boys to...well, wild grown men.

This video is also good for some laughs. I mean, some of the early stuff display Bono with some rather interesting hairstyles. But nothing tops watching him do his "aerobic" style dancing in I Will Follow.

One of the greatest treats is to see the previously unreleased "One Tree Hill" concert shot. An absolutely breathtaking song that brings out the passion, the love and the power that makes U2 the best band in the world.

This review is from: U2 - The Best of - 1980-1990 [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This is one of the best U2 videos I've had. It's just to bad they didn't include the song [ONE] Greatsong. This video is worth the money. VIDEO TITLES ARE PRIDE IN THE NAME OF LOVE, NEW YEARS DAY, WITH OR WITHOUT YOU, STILL HAVEN'T FOUND WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR, SUNDAY BLOODY SUNDAY, BAD, WHERE THE STREETS HAVE NO NAME, I WILL FOLLOW, THE UNFORGETABLE FIRE, SWEETEST THING, DESIRE, WHEN LOVE COMES TO TOWN, ANGEL OF HARLEM, ALL I WANT IS YOU, ONE TREE HILL.

4.0 out of 5 stars Best of U2: Great Video for a Great Band, April 11, 2001

As a big U2 fan, I was very pleased with this video. If you like "Old School" U2, then you must buy this video. Some of their classics, Like "Pride" and "Where the Streets Have No Name" are great music videos that you can play time and time again. The best part was watching the emotion of "Bad" and "One Tree Hill" flow through Bono. I got hit with a blast from the past with the 1980 "I will Follow". It is hard to believe that the group of kids you see would go on to be one of the best bands ever. This is a great video that U2 fans should own.

5.0 out of 5 stars Must have for any U2 fan, February 28, 2001

Since I did not have cable until I went to college, I grew up deprived of MTV and as a result did not get to see many of these videos until I got this title. My wife bought it as my Valentine's Day present and I threw it right into the VCR while eating dinner. I am a huge fan and it is this type of video that can really make a case to anyone that this is the greatest band in the world. One of the best parts of the tape is the previously unreleased "One Tree Hill" that was left off the Rattle and Hum movie. Since this is one song that they will not play live again, it was great of the band to include it.

5.0 out of 5 stars No complaints here, May 15, 1999

Wonderful video. Even though I had seen every video on here, it was well worth me buying it. Where the streets have no name is an entireley different version than I had ever seen. That was very cool. And it was nice to see One Tree Hill with clear sound & picture, compared to the version I have from the Rattle and Hum outtakes. I would recommend this video to anyone.

A chance for you to view all of U2's best 80's videos, it includes all of the songs that apear on the CD "The best of 1980-1990" plus an extra song "One tree hill" wich is a great perfomence from The Rattle and Hum tour. I never got to see most of this videos until I bought this, I was surprised to see how much one band can change so much in 10 years with out changig any band member. "Sweetest Thing" was recorded in 1998 but the song was made in the 80's, the video shows Bono saying sorry to his wife for forgeting her birthday. Other geat videos include "Pride," "New Years Day," and "The Unforgatable Fire." One video you must see if U2 is your favorite band is "I Will Follow" all of the band members have a funny hair look. This video has great songs, the videos arent that great but again, they were made in the 80's.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible Compilation - history in the making, March 10, 2001

I'm a relatively new U2 fan.. unfortunately because I was in grade school during the 80s! But I absolutely adore and respect U2, have for the last 5 years. So this was also the first time I had seen any of their videos before Pop! and it all blew me away, even if some of them were filmed over 15 years ago. New Year's Day, With or Without You, Sunday Bloody Sunday and Pride were amazing. The collection also includes the B-side, Sweetest Thing which has a hilarious tongue-and-cheek theme behind it. It has footage of the the live shooting of Where the Streets have No Name in downtown L.A. It just shows how much guts and raw attitude this band have always had. This video is practically a timeless piece of rock n roll piece of U2's greatest stuff in a decade. A must for every heartfelt U2 fan - veterans and newbies.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great videos that should be on DVD..., January 26, 2005

I have seen VCD copies out there, which some people might prefer in the meantime...

But the videos included here go from the promos to live cuts.
"Pride" and "New Years Day" start it off, then "Joshua Tree" cuts "With Or Without You" and "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For".

We then see them live in "Sunday Bloody Sunday" and "Bad", continuing through to "All I Want Is You" in the same running order the CD is in.

As an extra, you get "One Tree Hill" an outtake from "Rattle and Hum" and kind of "cheated" with putting a re-recorded "Sweetest Thing" on there, which turned out to be a hit song in the 90s, which is also included on the "Joshua Tree Classic Albums" DVD.

I can't find much at fault with the videotape. It's a great quality video from beginning to end, and because it's a "greatest hits", it covers the basics. The promos for the most part still look great, although I'm sure U2 were somewhat embarrassed by the really early footage. But if you can find the VCD version of it, the sound quality is obviously better.

But there is definitely room for improvement:
"One Tree Hill" should be included for a "Rattle and Hum" special edition rather than tacking it to the end here. "Bad" from the "Unforgettable Fire" video should've been on here.

Not enough songs...but it's a "greatest hits". And people will debate about chronological order versus mixing the different eras to give it some sort of cohesion.

Hopefully the DVD will be similar to the "1990-2000" Greatest Hits in including a lot of extras. The promos that should be on there should include the "Outside It's America" documentary, the filming of "Where The Streets Have No Name", the promo videos "Gloria", the rarely seen "A Celebration" (someone needs to tell them that this really isn't a bad video), the alternate videos to "Pride", "Two Hearts Beat As One", "A Sort of Homecoming", the alternate to "With Or Without You", "Red Hill Mining Town", "Merry Christmas(Baby Please Come Home), the "Desire" remix, "Night And Day", and other promos I may have forgotten to include and 2 concerts, 1 filmed in 1981, and the other filmed in Australia for the "Lovetown" tour ("Making of Unforgettable Fire" is already available on the "U2 Go Home" DVD).

Why isn't this available on DVD? When it is issued on DVD, they should include the unreleased Red Hill Mining Town video by Neil Jordan. Hopefully their merchandising team has thought ahead with Best of 1990-2000 and will automatically issue it on DVD as well as VHS.
