Two of the tracks - "All I Want is You/Love Rescue Me" and "MLK/Walk On" - contain full-length versions of each song, bumping up the total to 24 tracks (average number for a U2 360 concert).

So the band waited 32 years to release a full-length live record, and yet somehow made it worth the wait, soaring past my highest possible expectations. Culled from 110 concert performances over a period of three years, and selected by fan club members, each and every performance is unique and inspired, even to the cynical ears of a hardcore U2 geek like myself.

Absolute hi-lites include a jaw-dropping version of the rarely performed "Zooropa," a vastly improved reimagining of "Even Better Than the Real Thing," the all-time best version of "Ultra-Violet (Light My Way)" I've ever heard, and a moving rendition of the JOSHUA TREE classic, "One Tree Hill."

Even the overplayed songs I'm sick of hearing ("Beautiful Day", "Mysterious Ways") are brought to life with unusually fiery performances and all sorts of minor to major alterations in song structure. To give an example, this exceptionally ferocious take on "Until the End of the World" features an extended middle section during which Bono sings a little "Strangers in the Night" and pays heartfelt tribute to Frank Sinatra on the anniversary of his passing. It would be impossible to mistake this particular performance for any other, and this holds true with nearly every track on U22 - they are all special.

For those audiophiles out there, the sound quality is top notch, with audience reaction minimized when it should be, and brought to the fore when appropriate (like whenever they become a 100,000-voice choir, for instance).

After seeing multiple U2 concerts on multiple U2 tours, one thing has become evident. A U2 concert feels more like a holiday, a celebration of sorts. The audience celebrates the music, and the band celebrates the audience. Each song is performed in a context that brings new soul to it each night. This collection of live songs, more than any other, seems to get that feeling across. There is a consistent comradery between Bono, the consumate front man, and the crowd.

U22 was created as a "thank you" to the U2 Fanclub through U2.com. The band put any song performed on the 360 Tour up for nomination as to which ones would be included on the collection. The fans were then able to vote on which songs they wanted included. The top 22 choices determined the song lineup. Then, the band and producer sat down and culled through 110 complete concert recordings to find the best performance of each of the 22 selected songs. Those recordings were then sequenced and mixed as though they were one live show. The result is the strongest live album U2 has put out to date. One could argue that their relevance has peaked and receded somewhat, but this album proves that night after night, song after song, U2 performs like each show is their penultimate concert.

Great concept ... for me, it was worth the price alone for Bad and One Tree Hill live tracks. Highly recommended for any more-than-casual U2 fan.

I saw the 360 Tour show twice and loved it. There were some other songs from the concert that I would have liked to see included on the cd, but they are not there. However, I really enjoy listening to the live cd.
