Meet my expectation,

This review is from: U330 13.3 T4200 3GB 320GB HDD (Personal Computers)
Was looking for a thin and light with DVD drive to replace my old Dell 700m for <$500.
Made a decision after comparing Price/Availability and performance with a) Acer AS1810 w/SU7300, (11.6" no dvd drive, not available when I was looking around) b) Asus U20A-B2 (12.1" with DVD drive, backlit keyboard but I missed the $650 deal) c) Dell 11z (average specification and higher price) 1) Price: <$440 after Bing Cash Back via TigerDirect - beats all competitive notebook I was looking at the time 2) Processing Power: T4200 Duo Core 2Mb Cache 2.0 Ghz and integrated video, 3Gb RAM - Since we don't do gaming, photo/video editing or 3D graphics it's sufficient for my use and it runs cool. - Not so happy about the 35W power drain (since the SU7300 / SU9400 only drain 10W) but I think I just don't want to shed another couple hundred bucks for a lighter duty core 2 processor (consider it's another 25% of the price) 3) Battery Life: 2-5 hrs (Depends on configuration) - For "Super Efficient Saver" it declare a >5 hrs range but WiFi has to be off and screen at dimmest settings - I used "Low Power" mode, screen is light enough, light browsing and word processing still gives me close to 5 hrs - Running DVD or streaming video I don't think it will go beyond 3 hrs (didn't try drain it all the way) 4) Overall Construction - very solid feel, I prefer the matted finish of the notebook over the shiny finger-print magnet shiny shell - The "Touch-sensitive" multi-media bar above the function keys is pretty cool and give the machine a modern techie look - I though I would be uncomfortable with the Fn and Ctrl Key reversed but it seems I got used to it already - The speakers are loud and clear enough for me (some other users seem to have problem with this) - Size is a bit bigger than my 700m but we are happy with the weight (not 3lb light but it's still ok) - DVD drive seems to be a bit loud, but I will have to explore with more DVDs Waiting for my Win 7 disc from Lenovo ($17+ for shipping?!) and still struggling if I should upgrade to Win 7 (some users have been experiencing poorer battery life and worst performance and hardware driver issues)

This is my first Lenovo and I am very impressed.
Pros Good battery life, at 5 hours. (not great, but not bad) Very good keyboard (I am probably going to stick with Lenovo for that reason alone. I just used a friend HP laptop and it was a pain to type on, while this is a joy.) Veriface is really a cool way to lock/unlock your computer Small and light Negatives Switching between the two GPUs is annoying, I wished it was automatic like newer multi-GPU laptops. Glossy screen Overheats easily when on ATI GPU

Received it, and had to reinstall windows after 1 day!
From some reason, there was no wireless connection, (driver got corrupted, or disappears, or who knows?) and along with Lenovo Support, we decided to reinstall everything (XP pro). And maybe this is the time to say something about Lenovo Service: Phase 1: get their number. Phase 2: Call them. Navigate through their system (including pressing the model # {U330} Phase 3: Wait. Phase 4: After you finally receive a real person, he tells you that they are not dealing with the U series (something I wished I didn't have to wait 30 minutes to learn, especially after I punched my model # as I was asked). Phase 5: Calling the new number I just received. Then, almost the same procedure, all over again, just so you reach a person (which was really nice), that all he can do, is ask you to install windows. After two days, it crushed again. After that, recovery didn't work anymore. Impossible to reinstall, anything, including Linux. When the computer did work: Very slow. I have checked other computers with the same specs, and this one is just slow. This was a repeating scenario: You're running two application: A browser (any: chrome, explorer or firefox), and a Chess game. Every time you'll go back to the browser, you will have to wait until the computer (hopefully) unfreeze itself. Very frustrating. Battery life is nowhere near what they are (max 2:30). Sound is so weak, you will be sure something is wrong. Amplifier? Speakers? Software? Not sure, but you will hear everything faintly. In the one I got, i received a "free" windows 7 upgrade: On the computer you have XP. You are receiving an upgrade to Vista. And then you need to pay for the Windows 7 Upgrade's shipping (over $17!!!), which I never got! Anyway, I am not sure how healthy is to do all those operating system upgrades, way too patched for me. I think this lemon turned me off on Lenovo. Can't say anything good about this computer or the service. Sometimes I think we should all call customer service before we buy something, to understand how we'll be treated once we really need them.
