Product Description

he UDI U816A Quad copter offers 6 axis gyro stabilization and sports a cool UFO look! The UDI 816A offers new and experienced pilots both a 6 axis stabilized quad copter that is capable of loops and high speed flight. 2 flight modes offer enhanced performance. Everything you need for alien missions is included in the box. Just add (4) AA batteries for the transmitter. Speaking of transmitters, the UDI U816A is controlled by a state of the art 2.4GHZ transmitter. You can switch between flight modes by pushing a button on the remote. When you get comfortable with how the quad handles and feels, pushing one button on the transmitter switches the quad to high performance mode for high speed flight. The foam protective body helps guard against crash damage. The U816A features advanced flight stabilization with it's built in 6 axis gyro. This keeps the quadcopter level and stable and translates to less control inputs needed from the pilot to maintain a hover. The stabilization system also aids flying in light winds.

For a bit under $50, and a relative noob at RC, I've enjoyed the heck out of this thing so far.

Pros:
Very stable if you get it aligned right
Good range (flown over 100 ft in altitude)
Durable
Spare batteries reasonably priced

Cons:
Manual written in Engrish (I'm sure it's better in the original Esperanto)
Connectors are hard to separate
Cannot see receiver board LEDs easily (not necessary but would be nice)
Makes me wish I'd gotten one with a camera

I've had this beauty only a couple of days. I was beginning to despair a bit after the first couple of flights - it seemed like I'd never be able to get it to hover, let alone fly it in a controlled manner. Finally I hit on a reliable startup sequence:

1) Turn off transmitter
2) Connect battery on helicopter
3) Insert battery into carrier, making sure it's centered (somewhat tolerant of misalignment, but get it as close as you can)
4) Tuck extra wire out of the way
5) Set on flat surface, don't touch until (8)
6) Set throttle to zero and turn on transmitter
7) Advance throttle to 100% and return to zero within a second or so
8) Transmitter will beep three times in an escalating sequence and the helicopter's headlight will come on
9) Go fly

I've found it easier to hand launch than to have it take off from the floor. Hold the helicopter by the corners of the battery in your right hand, orienting the orange props away from you, and the transmitter in your left. Advance the throttle to where it feels like it's starting to pull a little. Tilt the orange props away from you a bit and release, moving your hand down as you do so. Don't toss it, just let it fly out of your fingers.

I received $50 Amazon gift card for my birthday, and bought this copter, never having owned or flown one. It's been an outstanding lot of fun learning to fly it. The copter is fast, maneuverable, forgiving and amazingly rugged. My experience with flying "real" airplanes gave me a few things to unlearn, but that's part of the challenge.

It's stable even in a bit of a breeze, and confuses the heck out of the birds in the back yard. I've done a few 360-degree flips with the button on the controller. I'm certainly doomed to purchase larger and more powerful models sooner rather than later, but I still have a long way to go before I max out this aircraft.

Also, learning to fly this at age 54 is healthy for the brain, and provides a refreshing shift of gears from other parts of life.

I would buy this exact unit again in a heartbeat.

Ok, I just have to say O.M.G This is one of the funnest toys I have ever had the pleasure to play with. After you charge the battery for the required time and plug it into the quadcopter it is one of the easiest RC toys I have ever played with. It has this button on it called the 360 button, when you have the craft about 20ft. off the ground push this button. The copter will do a complete three hundred sixty degree flip. be careful though because it will take a dive so be sure its high enough so you can recover. Buy this and you will be very happy.I look forward to using it all the time. This toy will not collect dust. I recommend to ages 12 and up.

I have to agree with everyone else who has posted positive comments on this item. This is the greatest little "toy" I have purchased in many years. It is up there with Tyco's old SuperRebound RC ground/stunt vehicle. Very easy to fly, pretty much indestructible (even when caught in a tree), extremely forgiving for the beginning RC pilot. I give 6 out of 5 stars. Awesome value!!!

I purchased this quad because of the shielded blade design. When I'm bored, I like to fly a quad inside my house, and as anyone who has done so with an "open prop" design quadcopter, you quickly end up with scratches on your walls. So this UDI model appealed to me immediately. Though it claims to have gyro stabilization, it flies as if it does not, has very little rotational control-ability (it continues to constantly rotate on its axis despite constant trim adjustments) and will suddenly "dart off" in any random direction without having been directed to do so. I would return mine if I hadn't already thrown out the packaging. If anyone is considering buying one of these, I strongly urge you to pay a little more (about twice as much) and get the Heli-Max 1SQ. You will be much happier.

I am learning R/C flying, and purchased an Estes Dart from my local hobby shop. Within 2 days, it had stopped working because the bottom of one of the motors had broken off (poor design). Looking for a replacement, I came across the UDI U816A.

I love it! It has inherently better design to prevent the problems the Estes Dart suffered, with motor bottoms reinforced to prevent breakage from a crash. I have crashed it a few times that scared me, but it seems to still be going fine. Also, the body has plastic rotor shields built into it, making it much more forgiving for flying indoors or out, especially for any beginner pilots. The controller is much more detailed giving you a digital reading of throttle setting, controller battery life, LED on/off, high/low controls, and trim settings. I have a blast now flying this around the house for the 7 minutes or so the battery lasts, and recharges in about 45 minutes time. The USB recharger also allows 2 batteries to be recharged at once!

The only reason I do not give this 5 stars is that there is a light on the front that doesn't seem to work on mine. Aside from this extremely minor detail, I find this to be a very fun, inexpensive amazing little R/C flying product.
