5.0 out of 5 stars Great show, many extra's
In Holland this DVD is already available. I live in Holland, I saw UB40 perform and now I relive it as many times as I want because of the perfect registration on DVD of this perfect show. And there are many extra's, interviews and clips on this DVD. It's great to own it!

1.0 out of 5 stars UB 40 Live in Holland
Wonderful music, muscianship, and stage personna. The editing is atrocious and jumps throughout the entire show from musician to musician. Rarely is any musician shown for more than 2 seconds and the editing is typical of the MTV herky-jerky, ADD/ADHD-type editing so prevalent in video music today. It was impossible to enjoy the play of any musician in this terrific band...

1.0 out of 5 stars UB 40 Live in Holland, October 14, 2004
This review is from: UB40 - Homegrown in Holland Live (DVD)
Wonderful music, muscianship, and stage personna. The editing is atrocious and jumps throughout the entire show from musician to musician. Rarely is any musician shown for more than 2 seconds and the editing is typical of the MTV herky-jerky, ADD/ADHD-type editing so prevalent in video music today. It was impossible to enjoy the play of any musician in this terrific band. Compare this type of editing with, say, the 1991 Paul Simon "Concert in Central Park" where the viewer/listener can savor the world-class musicianship of this crack band with reasonably sustained individual shots of the players. The Holland technicians seem obsessed with their technical prowess, acutely jumpy editing, and the DVD viewer's enjoyment of the musicians is left wanting. I plan to return the DVD when my splitting headache subsides. I anticipated something more like the "UB 40 Live in Moscow" work. Why isn't this available on DVD?

2.0 out of 5 stars Poor photography, June 18, 2006
This review is from: UB40 - Homegrown in Holland Live (DVD)
This otherwise good show by good musicians is spoilt by bad photography jumping around more than the band do and making it irritating to watch. You don't see anyone only catch glimpses of people or scenes for a second or less.

1.0 out of 5 stars Crazed TV director blew a no-brainer band shoot, September 16, 2006
This review is from: UB40 - Homegrown in Holland Live (DVD)
Doesn't meet the minimum standards of viewability. The director must have have a nervous breakdown. Music is great, video unwatchable. Pointless cuts that last lesss than a second. No brainer shoot blown by a tv director with no talent for concert video

3.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Audio, Terrible Video, September 21, 2008

This review is from: UB40 - Homegrown in Holland Live (DVD)
My title sums it up: The songs are excellent. Superb. But put the DVD on and walk away. Play it loud through your surround sound but do not watch it. Its way too fast. Jumpy. Terrible cuts. Terrible editing. Terrible. Terrible. No shot lasts for more than a few seconds. So dumb. The music, however, more than makes up for the atrocious editing. Well worth it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Declare Tracks, October 17, 2007

If the Tracks are not declared, how does one decide to buy the DVD. Can you not ensure that all DVDs that are on sales have the Tracks declared so that it would be easier to decide a purchase, rather than try one's luck ?

5.0 out of 5 stars UB40 - Homegrown in Holland Live, November 7, 2006
This review is from: UB40 - Homegrown in Holland Live (DVD)
UB40 is one of those bands whose live performances far exceed their recordings. The UB's rely on musicianship, not stage gimicks. This DVD is an excellent capture of the band in Holland where they are very well known and very popular. The set list contains some of the bands early songs (One in Ten / Present Arms / Food for Thought) as well as later hits on the continent and the states (Red, Red Wine / Here I Am / Kingstontown). It also contains some extras that give alot of insite about the band. As to some of the reviews about the photography, yes, there are quick takes, but the for the most part it is fine video. I bought the DVD inspite of the negative comments, have watched most of it more the 100x and love it. It would be extremely boring to have a still shot of the band for the whole concert. I would highly recommend this DVD to any ub loonie, reggae fan or anyone new to reggae. For the loonies, check out Norm's message at the start of "Rat."

5.0 out of 5 stars LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF THIS DVD AND YOU WILL TO, July 24, 2006
This review is from: UB40 - Homegrown in Holland Live (DVD)
wow, what a complete compilation of this unique and often over looked band! i loved them for years & remember when red red wine put them on the crossover map and everyone assumed these guys were brothers of the African American variety. there is indeed a lot of input from the message this fab.&innovative band of musicians. anyone can hear the soul created in this reggae version of sly and family stoned rasta slash hip hop (although i personally didn't care for the token rap song) this band prooves that skin pigmitation has nothing to do with rasta greatness!!!!!!

Unbelievable! This is a must have for any UB40 fan. The performance is outstanding and was captured beautifully. The extras were a great bonus as well. Even if you already have another UB40 live performance DVD, you'll want this one.
