5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best games this Year, November 15, 2007
Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
I was a little skeptical this game would live up to the hype. Then some diminished reviews came around and I was already feeling a let down. Where could they go wrong? Was my thoughts. Well that didn't stop me from purchasing this game. After 30 minutes I was blown away. All skepticism was gone and I was in Gamer Heaven.

Let me start off from the beginning. Yes there is a plot twist and it's pretty bizarre. Just think that your watching a Michael Crichton movie and it will make sense. Playing in the Middle East several hundred years ago is a different idea. It's hard to say what you could expect with this concept.

So what makes this game amazing. Lets start off with the landscape. It's brilliant and beautiful...Really majestic. You don't understand the scope of this game until you start playing. The world is surrounded by several small villages and three large cities. The only way to travese this open terrain with a horse. Fortunately they are about as easy to find as a car in todays society.

What also sets this game apart is the ability to do what you want when you want. There is no clock on you and your not stuck going into a mission. Everything is open based. The character is amazingly fun to control you can scale tall buildings and make amazing leaps of faith. Climbing up a building that is several stories and then leaping to certain doom is breathtaking excitement. This is what games should be about.

Beyond that is a mission based game. Similiar to Grand Theft Auto in style. You can accept simple missions like pickpocketing and protecting citizens to the more main based assasin missions. You can battle soldiers if you want as you have many enemies but it's not really advised. Following the assasin missions can be complex and involve several steps that make the story very intresting. Obviously a lot of time was put into making this top notch.

For anyone who likes open based games with large environments then Assassins Creed is for you. From the majestic peaks to the clustered cities. This is trully a next gen experience. The storyline and incentive program will keep you playing for many hours. Definately a worthwhile gameplay experience. If you want something to keep you busy that doesn't involve guns go out and get Assasins Creed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Your Next Target, December 11, 2007
Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
Assassins Creed - Circa 2007

GOOD:
- The game has three huge (as well as very detailed) cities (Jerusalem, Acre, and Damascus) as well as the countryside (known simply as "Kingdom") that is equally as big as any of the cities. The games size rivals that of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (even if GTA:SA is bigger Assassins Creed is lot more detailed and intractable).
- A good story mixing elements of historical fiction and a Sci-Fi.
- Really impressive graphics and first-rate animations, that look just as good as games like Bioshock and Mass Effect.
- A great sound track that mixes music of the era during the clam points of the game and more modern type of music during the chase points of the game.

BAD:
- Collecting Flags (one hundred in every city and one hundred in the countryside) has no real point and only unlocks achievements.
- Most players and reviews complain about the relative nature of the Intel missions. Most of these missions are generally the same from city to city.

IF IT FITS YOUR TASTE:
- A Stealth game set in the year 1191 A.D. during the holy land crusades between King Richard and Sladine. You play as an Assassin of Hashshashin (who was a real life group of assassins of that time) charged with unsettling the powers that be in an attempt to bring peace to the holy land. To do this you must kill nine people who are using the crusades to control others and bring disorder to the land.
- The control is broken down into two areas of game play there is a passive action and an aggressive action to almost everything you can do in the game. For example you can lightly tap people to move out of your way while walking down crowed the street (hold the B button to do this) or shove people as you run down that same street (hold the R button and the B button to do this). This duality applies to all your actions and it becomes necessary because during the game you must be able to move freely between these two states (passive and aggressive) to run and then hide from people the out to get you as well as to sneak up on and kill your victims.
- Lot of what you will be doing is climbing and jumping from buildings this plays similar to the Prince of Persia games also made by ubisoft (the sands of time series). Although in this game the controls are more streamlined and user friendly as you can climb way more effectively as well as more realistically.
- Most of the game play itself is not so much assassinating people but gathering Intel on your targets, like ease dropping on conversations, pick pocketing people, and saving innocents from corrupt guards (who will repay you later by having others help in your endeavors) you can also scout out high areas to find hiding areas for later.
- Altair (the main character that you will play as) is an assassin and not a gladiator, while you can kill over 25 guards in a row (doing that unlocks an achievement) Altair is more like a spy or Ninja where his style is to stay hidden for a long as possible and not out right fight unless cornered. Now when cornered Altair can really destroy is enemies rather effetely with either a small combo (tap X once until you hear/see Altair's sword hit his opponents sword and quickly tap X again - this take lots of practice to get right) or counter move (tap X right before an opponent hit Altair with his sword), the over all effect is that only players who feel the most confident in their abilities will fight more then a few people at once. While most players should and will play more like a "true" assassin and not be seen as well as only fight when they must.
- After every major assassination you unlock new moves and weapons (like throwing knives and counter strike).
- While in the countryside (called "Kingdom") you get to ride horses, this aspect of game play is very reminiscent of the Nintendo 64 game The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of time.
- The story can be very confusing to some not familiar with the politics of this time era. I recommend seeing the movie Kingdom of Heaven, this helps explain the story a bit more and give more back story to the game (note this game takes place a year or so after that movie).

GAME ITS MOST ASSOCATED TOO:
- Metal Gear Solid (PS1)
- Splinter Cell: Double Agent (360/PS3/PC)
- Prince of Persia (Xbox/PS2)
- Crackdown (360)
- HitMan: Blood Money (360)

ADDITIONAL NOTES:
- There is a small secret about the games story that I will not give away, although I will say the 90% of your gameplay time will be spend on the facts I have already mentioned, and the other part of the game is only really story based with no real bearing on your gameplay.
- Altair is an Arabic word that means "The Flying One.
- The assassins that Altair is a part of were a real group of assassins during that era in fact the word assassins comes from the assassins group Hashshashin as it was a word used to describe there followers. All your main targets (nine in all) are based on real people who during that time period either died mysteriously or vanished.
- This game is also on the Sony Playstation 3 as well as the PC.
- In the limited collector's edition you will find an art book, a mini Altair figuring as well as a mini strategy guide, you will also find a mini comic about one of Altair's missions (drawn from the comic artist from Penny Arcade website) as well as a bonus DVD with the videos "The Making of Assassins Creed" documentary and it all comes in a tin case.
- There is talk from Ubisoft about sequels to this game set in other time eras.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE Best Game of the Year, November 17, 2007
Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
In a year filled with FPSs, Assassin's Creed is a refreshing and a most exciting gaming experience. You play an assassin named Altair, and you must assassinate 9 targets. This game takes place in the period of the 3rd crusade. The gameplay is very exciting and very rewarding once you get used to it. The animations for Altair are amazingly done. The graphics are mindblowing and the attention to detail is amazing. The game is a breath of fresh air and it is the best I have played this year.
