Product Description

UCF: Toronto Cybercide' is a low-budget short, telling a crime story in a post-infocrash world. Technology was advancing to the point of a large global information network when in 2078, that network suddenly and permanently went offline. The world is left in shambles, and the survivors are slowly rebuilding. Cybernetic technology, seen as the cause of the crash but still necessary in the reconstruction, is a grey area in society. The Unified Cybernetics Foundation (UCF) has been created to limit the misuse of cybernetic technology, and control the amount of hate crimes that has been growing in the few civilized areas established throughout North America.

The year is 2106. A killer is on the loose, targeting cybernetic interfaces. A Marshal from the Foundation is sent to assist two Toronto detectives with solving the mystery of the killer's identity, and neutralizing the threat. The plot is further complicated when a local crime boss decides to stake an interest in whatever Foundation secrets may be uncovered.

The future of crime is here. The future of justice is ready.

1.0 out of 5 stars Made by geeks for geeks... and cheap, May 29, 2008
Awful. 30 minutes at most. Bad filming. Not an entertainment or intellectually stimulating film although one would expect that from a self-proclaimed 'cyberpunk' film. Due to the lack of budget the ideas of the film could only be explained through dialogue; which is hard to follow in the characters barely audible day to day conversation. Without real visuals explicating these cyberpunk themes there really isn't a movie here! The meager plot consists of detectives catching a handful of criminals; it does not explain the hows and whys and workings of this particular cyberpunk environment(that along with good special effects and acting is what made The Matrix series good). Every fictional cyberpunk environment is different and the writer here is expecting the viewer to become immersed in this cyberpunk environment already knowing the workings of it. The setting consisted of about 3 or four sparsely decorated rooms. The acting was horrible; it's like they were afraid to hurt much less touch each other during the so called 'action' scenes. For being experienced criminals and detectives no one is holding there gun properly. With all the geeks behind the making of this film and in the cast I expected much more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring film for an aspiring filmmaker, March 12, 2008
On a whim, I ordered Toronto Cybercide while picking materials to help me plan a course entitled: The Sociology of Literature and Film: Science Fiction, Space Fantasy, and the Cyberpunk Universe to be launched in July 2008. With eager anticipation I popped the film into my dvd player and was simply awestruck! The ideas in the film were good, the acting not so good, the special effects were just special, and the story was fine. Here was low budget filmmaking at its best. It reminded me of a film in which I had a minor starring role, Liquid Soul, directed and written by Ray Young, in which I played a mad scientist who was devoured by his pet cat. Anyway, Toronto Cybercide is down right inspirational! I'm going to show it to my students on the first day of class. After we discuss the film, I'll reveal to them the class project. We will make together a short film to be premiered on the last day of class. We'll invite the local media (The Greenville Record-Argus) and have a gala event.

I liked the film. I'd love to see a big budget film by the filmmakers of Toronto Cybercide. One glaring weakness of the film was sound. Sometimes the actors' voices were muffled and the diction was a bit quick. I know that James Cagney didn't slow down his diction, but he had better sound recording.

Anyway, congrats to the filmmakers and actors of Toronto Cybercide! I like your work. Keep at it. Cheers!

5.0 out of 5 stars "I was worried, I heard you'd been shot today.", October 28, 2006
I purchased this DVD only a few days ago, and upon it's arrival had watched the entire contents therein by the next morning. Having heard a few things about this during it's pre-production stage I had high hopes for the latest Key Pixel picture, and I must say I was not disappointed in the least.

UCF: Toronto Cybercide takes what we know about our world today and then skips forward in time to one-up our expectations of the future. The film is yet another example of how this group of artists, writers, hobbyists, and friends can churn out quality projects again and again. Keep an eye on this gathering of filmmakers - it may not be long until they make their way to a silver screen near you!
