Customer Reviews

The grill is very compact and easy to pack.
B. Javandel
It's collapsible structure allows it to compact small enough into a backpack and is a great idea for cooking over an open pit fire.
Samantha Adams
I was so excite to get this, but one of the legs had stripped screw threads out of the box, rendering it useless.

Here's the short review: If you can deal with the extra lb, this device is a good device to have in a pinch.
It's highly compact, weighted well indicating a reasonable level of quality, and because something is better than nothing, I highly recommend this for when wood burning campfires are your only option.

But this device is far from perfect. it's like the highly undersized spare tire in your car. Nono, less than that, it's the backup tire patch kit you have just in case your spare tire goes bad.

There are significant problems with this grill.

- First off, you can't build a real good fire under this. It's just not strong enough to handle that much heat.
- Secondly, even with a smaller campfire, you will see some warping occur fairly quickly, long before even a small pot of water boils.
As such, as soon as you're done cooking, you have to take the grill off thhe campfire to prevent too much damage.
- Thirdly, campfire based cooking is highly inefficient. Even a little bit of wind wil whip away heat, making light cooking or water boiling a somewhat time consuming affair.

But despite all that, I still highly recommend this unit. It's the only unit available on the market today that is a container in and of itself. It's the only camp fire grill that can be carried inside a backpack and get out of the way. And it's a great idea as a backup as you just never know when you might need to have something to cook on.

I wish it was built better (and wouldn't mind the weight cost that would entail) and about double the weight to make it more stable and warp free, I would be even happier and it would get moved up from tertiary to secondary, possibly even primary cooking system.

For now, though, the highly eficient hand made double walled alcohol stove will be my primary cooking system.

this grill is absolutely the best compact grill on the market. The design of this thing is genius, and it makes cleaning a snap. Its big enough for eight burgers to cook at once and it is elevated enough to keep a nice fire underneath. If you suddenly stop camping it can also double as a baton for relay races.
The only problem I had was the threading on the one ends screw in cap became a little loose, to fix it all you need is a little piece of a plastic bag the size of a ritz cracker, place in-between the cap and the tube and screw the cap down with the plastic underneath. Happy Camping

When I opened this Christmas present I told my wife "This grill has to have been made in Germany" as they do wonders with machined stainless steel. It is extremely well made and thoughtfully designed. While a bit heavy for some backpackers it suits my adventure motorcycle camping needs perfectly where space consumption is more critical than weight. I especially like the ability to scrape the gunk off the grill members for cleanup. Excellent product. BTW, my wife did not buy this product from Amazon. She got it through Campmor. I mention that as Campmor produces a great and funky catalogue and website and they have a great selection of outdoor gear.

Used this for the first time on a backpacking trip for two nights. Long story short we enjoyed the pack size despite its weight, but was seriously disappointed when the grill warped under a normal fire. In the future I hope they used tempered materials, even if it comes at the cost of weight and size.

I was oober excited when i ran across this product. It's a fantastic idea. Unfortunatly, the grill can't stand up to any amount of heat. I had a very small fire just and the grill couldn't even support the weight of a hotdog. the rods warped and bent under the heat of the fire and the hotdogs fell thru. I can't recommend this for any serious grilling

I just used this grill for the first time on a backpacking trip. I did not have any trouble with warping like some others seemed to have. I just put the grill at the edge of the fire pit and scooted some coals underneath it. The cooking surface handled our two 1-quart pots and some summer sausage wrapped in foil well. I had no concerns about stability during use.

The weight is not ideal for backpacking, but aluminum or titanium just would not hold up to the heat as well. I did set it it up one time before hand, which definitely saved me a little time at the campsite.

I will use this again, unless I need to go ultralight.

Often do overnight "luxury" hikes where we take nothing but real food and many comforts from home, and grilling Filet Mignon has become a standard. Nice to mix it up from those long treks where you have nothing but dehydrated for days on end. But packing a small Weber grill has proven unruly, so grabbed this unit. A little heavy, but fine for overnight hikes where extra pounds don't really add up. Easily fits anywhere inside or out of your pack. Even works well for steaming tortillas over your JetBoil pot for mad breakfast burritos the next morning.

we used this on many of our river tubing adventures this summer, as other reviewers have said if you heat it too much the grill part will warp but it's such thin metal you can just bend it back and good as new. we have cooked burgers, hot dosg, steak and chicken on it so far, I can put 2 glacier cups on one end with sides and a couple hot dogs or what ever on the other side and in a couple mins, you have food so good it'll make you want to slap yo mama :)
