Product Description

The UCO 12-15 hour beeswax candle is custom designed for use in the UCO Original Candle Lantern or the UCO Candlelier Candle Lantern. It has a clean-burning, dripless formulation with a specially designed wick. According to Wikipedia, "Beeswax has negative ionization, which binds particulate matter to clear the air. A beeswax candle flame has a "warmer," more yellow color than that of paraffin, and the color of the flame may vary depending on the season in which the wax was harvested." Available in 3-packs. 3-pack weighs 6.0 ounces. Made in the USA.

They need to reengineer April 10, 2008

I love beeswax candles so when I saw that UCO was making them for their candle lanterns I was so excited!

While these work ok, I think they're maybe using the wrong wick size. The candle I have been using burns unevenly to the point it starts to burn over the rim of the holder. Also, you need to trim these to keep the wick down where the white candles don't really need this.

On the plus side they are more enviromentally sound and have a lovely aroma.

If UCO would work on the wick and burning issue, then they would have a great product. I think they used the same molds and wicks as the their traditional white candles completely ignoring the fact that beeswax burns differently and needs to be managed accordingly.

They really need to team up with Blue Corn Candles (who specializes in beeswax) and make a superior product. I would gladly pay the $10+ for these if they were as efficient as the their traditional white candles.

First: Yes, they are really very expensive for candles.

These fit into UCO (or similar) breakdown candle lanterns. The lanterns usually come with paraffin candles, which are great and last a long time. These replacement candles are made from beeswax, however. They do last considerably longer than the paraffin versions. What I really like about them, however, is that they give off a really pleasing, mild scent as they burn. I use these when I'm illuminating the inside of my tent or cabin rather than the other ones. I also appreciate that they are a natural resource.

The quality is high, and they burn very evenly and as long as advertised. My experience is that the wicks on these have been self-trimming and have never broken off between uses. These seem to have held up well in the hot environments of the desert, my enclosed gear box, and the interior of my truck, never melting to the point of being misshapen.

But the cost, you say? Well, yeah. For me, it's a value proposition: I enjoy and prefer the gentle glow of candlelight when I'm camping or backpacking, over the bright light and hiss of my white-gas-driven light whenever I can help it. They do last a good, long while, too, and I figure that the per-hour cost of these set me back a little over a quarter. That, and the fact that they cost only a little more than the paraffin version for an emergency/camping light that will never run out of batteries or suffer a broken mantle make them well worth it for me. That, and the fact that there is nothing that smells quite like a burning beeswax candle. Besides, I go through these so slowly that I don't have to buy them that often.

Five stars for a high quality, well-made product that lasts.

This is a good product, but with most it works in some conditions better than others. They do burn longer, they do smell like bees wax - but are not over powering. Read more

UCO 100% Natural Beeswax Candles for Candle Lantern
These candles don't work! They have a very small flame (on the verge of going out), do not stay lit as they go out due to wax melt or wind, and give off no warmth. Don't buy them. Read more

Burns nice and slow.
Beeswax candles have a pleasant scent, a strong flame, and the longest, cleanest burn of any candle. Carry one in my pack for emergency use.

affordable beeswax candles
These candles are not particularly attractive but they are a very good deal for pure beeswax. They really do burn for hours. Nice to find an affordable, unscented, natural product.
