5.0 out of 5 stars UFC 117 October 26, 2010
By Chris
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
Every single fight on this card is amazing. I went to the fights live at Oracle Area and had a blast the entire time. It is close to 5 hours of non-stop action. Being a Purdue student I had the pleasure of seeing fellow Boilermaker alum Jon Fitch put on a great performance as well. The main event with Anderson and Chael is a spectacular battle and one you can watch over and over. Great purchase for any fight fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars BEST FIGHTER VRS BEST TRASH TALKER!! March 4, 2011
UFC 117 Silva vs Sonnen was another top notch UFC event coming hot on the heels of UFC 116 Lesnar Vrs Carwin. Featuring a stacked card including a UFC hall of famer in Matt Hughes, a number one contenders bout for the heavyweight title Junior Dos Santos Vrs Roy Nelson, a fighter returning from a serios brain condition Thiago Alves and of course a fight for the UFC Middleweight title with Champion Anderson Silva defending against Chael Sonnen.

There is no doubt that Anderson Silva one of the best pound for pound fighters had a lot to prove after his performance at UFC 112 when he danced his way to victory against Demian Maia in a lacklustre performance which had UFC president Dana White threating to pull Silva of the main card of UFC events if he ever tried to it again, and gladly we get what is possibly the best fight of 2010 between silva and Sonnen. I'm sure Dana was delighted with the amount of trash talking that Sonnen did in the months leading up to the fight, he even basically guaranteed victory, and it's well worth watching the always excellent countdown show thats on disc 2 before you watch the event itself, especially if you don't already know the outcome and the controversy that followed in September. Silva has always had a problem against great wrestlers and that's Sonnen speciality, he was even an olympic alternate.

The co main event featured the returning Thiago Alves who found out in march that he had arteriovenous malformation in the brain from a pre fight CAT scan. Alves had the corrective surgery in March and this would be his first fight in the Octagon since UFC 100, he would be taking on Jon Fitch who is known for his great wrestling. Elsewhere UFC Hall Of Famer Matt Hughes would fight the Renzo Gracie trained Ricardo Almeida.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Fight!!! January 12, 2011
I was out of the country when this fight was on so I could not watch it until the day after. I thought it would just be a routine victory for Silva because there was no way Sonnen could live with Silva in the stand up. Boy was I wrong!!! Sonnen fought the fight of his life. This was an epic!! wwwdotufclatestdotcom

5.0 out of 5 stars Solid throughout. June 6, 2013
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
Besides the miracle comeback of a main event, a very solid card. JDS and Nelson is a fun war. Hughes vs Almeida is a good example of hughes improved stricking.(yes thats a strech lol) Guida vs Dos Anjos is entertaining. Fitch vs Alves is very unimpressive, thanks to Fitch. Struve has a great fight with Morecraft. The sleeper fight was Big Rigg vs Charlie B. They went back and forth for the small amount of time they were in the octagon together. Great performance from both really. Overall a solid card with a little something for everyone. Also the condition the dvd and packaging arrived in where perfect. 5 stars for me!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars An enjoyable card top to bottom July 5, 2012
It was a great fight (and I hate hyperbole, especially the word "great") & a very entertaining card over-all. The reviewer HotHotHotHead RJ who reviewed this, let their bias show through. I'd bet this HHHH RJ's hatred of Chael Sonnen is because Chael ran for political office as a Republican or they are Brazilian - because those are the only people who do not enjoy Chael's scathing barbs..Read his comments and they are absolutely dripping w/hatred - all of this because you believe he cheated. It sounds pretty personal I hear + see his type in Boston all the time. They will cheer like mad for one of their sports heroes in Boston until they find out he doesn't vote democratic.THAT IS A HANGING OFFENSE IN BOSTON. This is a very good card + is worth the purchase in spite of what HotHotHotHeat "RJ" says. They are are telling people that this fight isn't worth your money because he doesn't like 1 fighter on the stacked card. This DVD should be judged by wether it is entertaining or not...and it IS!

5.0 out of 5 stars Trash Talker Meets True Champion! March 10, 2011
When UFC 117, people were ready to see Anderson Silva go down at the hands of Chael Sonnen. And it was because of the trash talk that Sonnen so deliberately delivered before it all went down. Dana White was so disgusted at UFC 112 at Abu Dhabi, that he didn't even bother putting the belt around Anderson after his fight with Demian Maia. And Chael Sonnen said anything and everything to pump up this fight, and to get under Anderson Silva's nerves. Bottom line, could Chael back it up? This is the Main Event of UFC 117!

Co-Main Event is a rematch of 2 great Middlweight contenders. At UFC Fight Night 5 Fitch actually TKO'd Thiago Alves...pretty impressive. Both of these guys want the finish pretty badly. Thiago would love nothing more than to knock out Jon Fitch. Add that to the fact that Thiago Alves once again DID NOT MAKE WEIGHT for this fight. Would Thiago get his wish? Or would Fitch prevail once again?

Also on this card, Richardo Almeida is sick and tired of Matt Hughes. The former Welterweight Champion has put the stamp on legends Royce Gracie at UFC 60, and on Renzo Gracie at UFC 112. Almeida is ready to make things right in the eyes of the Gracie clan, and in the eyes of the UFC.

This is a very good card!! There are 11 fights, and I'll list 'em all below.

Ben Saunders vs. Dennis Hallman: To put it lightly, "Superman" had 5 seconds to go to earn a win over "Doomsday" Howard at the TUF Heavyweight Finale, and got caught. Ben Saunders couldn't do anything against Jon Fitch at UFC 111. This is a great scrap, and it goes to a unanimous decision!

Stefan Struve vs. Christian Morecraft: This is simply a crazy scrap between 2 big Heavyweights! Both get beat up, and wait until you see the surprise TKO in the 2nd!

Tim Boetsch vs.
