1.0 out of 5 stars Very disappointed September 3, 2011

Fun: 3.0 out of 5 stars
Was looking forward to this "game" for a long time. Had it pre-ordered for months. When I got it, I enjoyed it for a little while. However...

> There is no support for "southpaw" fighters. When the trainer calls "jab" you have to throw it left handed. There is an option in the menu to set it "left handed" but all that does is change the hand that controls the menus. Still cannot "fight" southpaw. This is annoying, but I could have lived with it.

> You have to throw verticle punches. Whether you two remotes or a remote and a nunchuk, your punches cannot "turn over" (like a correct punch should) or it doesn't register. So you have to punch holding your fist vertical. This is fine on a hook punch, where it should be verticle, but for jabs and crosses, it teaches bad habits. Larger annoyance, but I could have lived with that.

> Punching too fast means the game doesn't register your movements. Bigger annoyance, but I could have worked at a lower level and gotten by with it.

> After each exercise you are pulled back out to a menu. So if you want to do the same exercise again, there is no quick way to do it, you have to navigate a few menus to start it back up. Minor annoyance, but frustrating when you get a good sweat going.

> The big kill was that during the workouts, the game locked up and froze. I couldn't complete a single workout. As long as I did the individual activities, there was no issue, but anytime I tried a workout, I would get 6-8 minutes into it and end up having to reboot the machine. According to the website, this was a known issue that they patched for the PS and X-box, but no patch was released for the Wii. Lots of talk on the message board about how the company is standing behind those platforms, but Wii gets to be the "red-headed-step-child".

That was the end of this game. Four wasted workouts and I ended up returning the game for a refund. So very disappointed. If it worked, it would be great.

1.0 out of 5 stars Utimate Letdown July 19, 2011
Platform for Display:Nintendo Wii|Amazon Verified Purchase
Fun: 1.0 out of 5 stars
This was the biggest letdown. Considering it was delayed...supposedly to make it better....how bad was it before?

The leg strap is awful, uncomfortable, and slides of the leg easily. With the understanding that this is THQ and Active 2 is EA, I still wish UFC Trainer has a similar leg strap and control, or even was compatible. Nope, just a leg strap holster to put the Wiimote in.

I have the hardest time getting punches to register. I have trained in fighting 10 years and know how to punch, yet I punch like crazy and register ZERO as the trainer tells me to work harder and I score an incomplete even though I not only actually complete the workout but did even more than required. And it isn't just punches, I can't get it to register just about anything....crunches, knees, kicks....

I have also worked out for 15 years. I am in really good shape, especially if you consider I am almost 40. I have also held six fitness related certifications. Somehow this game says I am a beginner. If I am I beginner then I hate to see intermediate or experts.

Overall, in my opinion this sucks. I also own Wii Active 2 and Wii Fit and this is by far the worst of the three. If you want to practice punches and kicks use Active 2.

1.0 out of 5 stars DO NOT BUY THIS GAME October 30, 2011
Platform for Display:Nintendo Wii
Fun: 1.0 out of 5 stars
Avoid this game at all costs. As an interactive workout/exercise game, I'm sure it's great, but trust all the other reviews: The UFC Personal Trainer freezes CONSTANTLY. In the middle of workouts, while perusing the program calendar, and even during the start-up process. It's undoubtedly a flaw that they've chosen not to rectify. Save yourself the headache and save your money. Get another game for exercising.
