Finally...the WEC comes to DVD,
This review is from: World Featherweight Championship: Aldo Vs Faber (DVD)
If you're a hardcore MMA fan you already know how great the WEC is and this show is no exception. However if you're unfamiliar with the WEC here's a quick introduction. The WEC is the "little brother" of the UFC. Both companies are owned by Zuffa, but there's no sharing of talent between the two. The WEC focuses exclusively on the lighter weight classes: lightweight (155 lbs), featherweight (145 lbs), and bantamweight (135 lbs). The fights usually tend to be more dynamic and faster paced than those that take place in the heavier weight classes, and it's because of this that the WEC is quickly becoming one of the best mixed-martial arts promotions in the world. This card was the WEC's first foray into pay-per-view (all other WEC events are broadcast on the Versus network), and it's because of this that the card is stacked from top to bottom. The main event is current featherweight champion Jose Aldo defending his belt against former champ Urijah Faber. As one other reviewer pointed out this fight does end up being fairly one-sided, but it's a credit to Faber for going the distance with Aldo since most of the champ's opponents can't make it past the first round. The co-main event is another title fight, as WEC lightweight champ Ben Henderson takes on Donald Cerrone. These two had a five-round war that ended up as "Fight of the Year" on several lists at the end of 2009, and while the rematch wasn't a repeat of that performance it's still entertaining in its own right. The main card also features former featherweight champion Mike Brown against "Ultimate Fighter" season 5 runner-up Manvel Gamburyan, a great lightweight showdown between Shane Roller and Anthony Njokuani, and a fantastic fight between up-and-coming bantamweight contenders Scott Jorgensen and Antonio Banuelos. However there is one fight that stole the show at this event, and it's the fight that's already being talked about as "Fight of the Year" for 2010. Leonard "Bad Boy" Garcia welcomes WEC newcomer "The Korean Zombie" Chan Sung Jung to America, and this featherweight scrap is one for the ages. If you have a friend who isn't into MMA and you want to get them onboard, this is the fight to show them. It's the kind of fight that can be enjoyed over and over again, and its inclusion on this DVD makes this purchase a no-brainer for any fan of mixed-martial arts.

The single most exciting night of MMA in the history of the sport.,
This review is from: World Featherweight Championship: Aldo Vs Faber (DVD)
Watch every single one of these fights, and witness the gutty exchanges, beautiful submissions, and perfectly executed game plans. They all present their own background which will keep you on your feet. This DVD marked the rise of a star in Jose Aldo, who rose from a big fish in a small pond to a legitimate Pound for Pound great.

THE GREATEST FIGHT [SLUGFEST] EVER AND ONE OF THE GREATEST EVENTS EVER,
By
This review is from: World Featherweight Championship: Aldo Vs Faber (DVD)
WEC 48ALDO VS FABER This was the first and now only WEC event to be on Pay-Per-View, it has since been announced that they will merge with the UFC. I remember being so excited for this event and loving that these guys were going to get a bigger pay day than normal since it would be on PPV. Also this event lays claim to being the event in which the greatest fight ever happened, no lie the greatest slugfest of all time is here. 1.BRANDON VISHER VS TYLER TONER-the first fight of the night is a quick one since it ended in the first. The action is good between the two until Toner lands a nice left that puts Visher down, the fight is called a little later after multiple elbows.5/5 2.TAKEYA MIZUGAKI VS RANI YAHYA-the first round between these two is excellent, a really good grappling battle. Both know what they are doing and both show very solid grappling skills, both offensively and defensively. The second round has more striking but there is also a lot of that great grappling from the first. The final round is another round full of brilliant grappling, the defense in particular is great here. Mizugaki earns a hard fought UD here in this one.5/5 3.CHAD MENDES VS ANTHONY MORRISON-the second fight of the night that ends in the first round with some good action. The fight starts off with some good strikes from both until Chad sinks in a very tight guillotine choke. Another great fight on the card for sure as WEC always is.5/5 4.BRAD PICKETT VS DEMETRIOUS JOHNSON-the first round is very explosive with the best standing action of the night thus far. A lot of heavy shots as well as very quick combinations thrown by both fighters and it is still just the first round. There are also a lot of big slams in the first round from Brad who catches his kicks. The second round is just as action packed and fun as the first one, this one ends with a big slam and mount as the buzzer goes off. The final round is just like the first two but with Johnson getting a few takedowns of his own, but Brad gets some as well. Brad ends up getting the UD here in a very tough fight for both guys, excellent bout.5/5 5.ALEX KARALEXIS VS ANTHONY PETTIS-the first round is good with some big blows landed by Alex and some nice kicks and such from Pettis. The second round sees much of the same until Pettis uses those long legs and throws up a nice triangle choke. It was a nice finish as he gets the angle and even lands some strikes after he locks it on.5/5 6.LEONARD GARCIA VS CHAN SUNG JUNG-now this one right here is the greatest fight ever, really it kills Griffin vs Bonner and that is no joke. This is the greatest stand up let em go war ever. The Bad Boy takes on the Korean Zombie and they both go all out. The first round here is absolutely crazy as they both just throw bombs non stop, Garcia even gets dropped but they keep battling it out. Non stop action from both fighters here but Jung takes the round, excellent round. The second round is even crazier as they both just come out swinging and just throw more bombs. Jung even gets Garcia's back but my favorite is when they trade spinning back fists. The final round is just like the first two, amazing. This has got to be the best fight I have ever seen, and I have been watching this since before the first UFC. I personally think Jung won the fight but he ends up losing by split D, but this is without a doubt a CLASSIC. I am putting five out of five but I really am giving ten out of ten, best banging stand up war ever, it also received "Fight of the Night" honors.5/5 6.ANTONIO BANUELOS VS SCOTT JORGENSEN-this fight is a rematch to a close split D win for Banuelos some months earlier. The first round in this one is close with some good action from both but Banuelos lands the heavier shots and some big kicks. He even drops Scott in the round but it is Scott that gets the better of him in the second. This time he knocks Banuelos down and takes his back, another great round. The final round is all Scott once again but they both go all out in this one, Scott gets the UD.5/5 7.ANTHONY NJOKUANI VS SHANE ROLLER-this is just an amazing display of Jiu Jitsu here as Shane Roller is just really patient. Once he got him down he worked and worked for a rear naked choke. If you really watch him in this fight you will see all kinds of little details in the ground game, Shane gets the choke and the win.5/5 8.MIKE BROWN VS MANNY GAMBURYAN-just like the rest of the card this fight is just great, it also ends in the first. They exchange some in the round as it is all a stand up fight. But Manny ends up knocking Mike out with a huge counter right and hammers him out. Manny also got the Knockout of the Night award for this fight.5/5 9.BEN HENDERSON VS DONALD CERRONE-this fight is for the Lightweight title and is a rematch to what was one of the greatest fights of all time. Now their first fight went all five rounds but this one ends in the first, and is surprising. Ben comes out aggressive and looks for the takedown the whole time. He eventually gets him down with a sick guillotine choke and keeps his title, and also receives the Submission of the Night bonus as well.5/5 10.JOSE ALDO VS URIJAH FABER-this was the second title fight and the main event of the evening, and it like the rest is a great fight. Now I have heard some complain about this fight but they obviously are not big fans of this sport or truly don't understand it. Aldo had a great game plan in this fight and executed it perfectly and beautifully. The first round is just basically a feeling out round but you could see Aldo start to take his masterful plan into motion. Faber lands some nice combos but Aldo lands the bigger shots with some knees. Aldo dominates this round really as he just lands that leg kick at will, by the end of the round Faber is limping. The third round is another dominate one for Aldo as he destroys Faber with leg kicks, but Faber has heart and keeps fighting. Once again Aldo dominates Faber knocking him down with leg kicks just like he did the last round, Aldo even gets his back and also puts him in a crucifix. The final round is just another Faber beat down as Aldo dominates once more, but Faber lasted the whole fight. This was a really good fight and very strategic one; I personally think this was a great fight because of that.5/5 This was one of the best events ever period and had the best fight ever period, I highly recommend owning this event right here. If you are into MMA and don't own this then you are not really into MMA. And for first times this is the event to get to make sure that you get all the bang for your buck you could hope for. HIGHLY recommend to all reading this, for real.

Awsome fight card for the sport of MMA. I honestly don't think there was one bad fight on the whole dvd. I think one fight had a couple dry spot, but seriously hat was it! It has: possible 'fight of the year' between Garcia and the Korean Zombie, Successful newcomer to WEC Brad Pickett with impressive takedowns that gave him a close decision, Scott Jorgenson's rematch, Manny's unexpected defeat of former 145lbs champ Mike Brown with a 1st rnd TKO, Jose Aldo's first featherweight title defense against Urijah Faber. Aldo=the master for years to come, and he's only 23. Very, extremely fast kicks and strikes-the most exciting fighter in the sport right now (including UFC).You can not ask for more action in a mma card than this one!!!

WEC's first and last event on ppv went down as a feather in their cap as this card was literally stacked from the prelims to the main event, it also helped the actual ppv that the last fight on the spike tv aired fight was Garcia vs. Jung which many say did for WEC what Griffen/Boner did for The Ultimate Fighter in that it was a perfect fight to get you pumped enough to say "why not drop down $45 bucks and order it".This blu ray as with all of mma events on dvd owned by zuffa features the entire card and plays them in order with the only edits being the removal of entrance music and some of the breaks in between rounds. I did not originally see this event in HD but after re-watching it on blu ray the picture is amazing as is the sound quality which makes it feel like I was actually at the event The specaul features are the usual stuff to expect from Zuffa on dvd such as a featurette where some fighters are interviewed as well as Dana White( Face of the UFC ) and Joe Rogan( commentator/comedian ), Behind The Scene where more words with Dana and various fighters and the weight ins. While a lot of the WEC guys featured here are now starting to make waves in the UFC this makes a perfect companion piece to get to know these guys before they made it to the quote unquote big stage and bright lights

This DVD is of WEC's first ever pay-per-view. Though many may recognize Jose Aldo after the UFC merger, the card is pretty stacked if you are familiar with WEC or are addicted to MMA. The featured fights are the following:MAIN CARD Jose Aldo v Urijah Faber (for Featherweight title) Ben Henderson v Donal Cerrone (for Lightweight title) Mike Brown v Manny Gamburyan Anthony Njokuani v Shane Roller Antonio Banuelos v Scott Jorgensen Leonard Garcia v Chan Sung Jung UNDERCARD Alex Karalexis v Anthony Pettis Brad Pickett v Demetrious Johnson Chad Mendes v Anthony Morrison Takeya Mizugaki v Rani Yahya Brandon Visher v Tyler Toner The event has two title fights and has some impressive finishes for fans of each discipline. Unlike the newer UFC DVDs, it is a one-disc DVD and doesn't have the weigh-ins or a countdown but it isn't necessary. If you're into MMA, want to see up and comers give it their all, and have a few bucks to spare this DVD is worth your time.

Good fight in the sense that it was a good tactic and fight plan from Aldo and his team, but it's not much to watch. It basically looks like Aldo trained playing soccer and doing side volleys, then simply showed up to the fight and kept with it. So if you want to see some good kicking, I say stick with a soccer game, because beyond that, there wasn't much fighting going on here. I definitely can't blame him though, I'd be afraid to fight Faber head on as well.
