Gameplay
UFC Undisputed 2010 is a fighting game that places players in the iconic mixed martial arts fighting cage, known as the octagon, with the most devastating MMA fighters to be found in the UFC. As with the original UFC 2009 Undisputed game, action plays out in one-on-one fights in which the player, utilizes a mix of fighting styles which are balanced between striking techniques—a standing game—and grappling techniques—a ground game. Because the strength, experience and fighting style of opponents will vary, it is important to develop both a standing and ground game in order to defeat opponents by knockout, submission or by a decision depending on an opponent's weakness and/or the opportunities encountered during a match. The game features representations of more than 100 top name UFC fighters, each of which utilizes fighting styles representative of the actual fighter. Along with this realism, the game contains customization options that allow the player to create a fighter of their own with various styles, and/or attire and tattoos. Additional features new to UFC Undisputed 2010 include: the addition of Sambo, Karate and Greco-Roman Wrestling fighting styles; the ability to switch to a southpaw stance at any time; new strikes, submissions, transitions; the ability to change submissions mid-attack; an enhanced Career Mode; and improved online play allowing for 16-player tournaments, online fight camps, co-op sparring and more.

PlayStation 3 Exclusive Content
PlayStation 3 players of UFC Undisputed 2010 enjoy additional exclusive content. This includes 3 exclusive Legends fighters - Royce Gracie, Jens Pulver, Dan Severn; some of the greatest fights in UFC history on Blu-ray; and five exclusive Ultimate Fights for play in Ultimate Fights Mode.

Ultimate Fights Mode is the evolution of UFC 2009's Classic Fights Mode allowing players to relive some of the more memorable fights in UFC history. Players can play the mode as a single player experience in an attempt to unlock content associated with each fight or play as a two-player experience, squaring off against friends with special presentation and commentary elements. The main difference between Classic Fights from UFC 2009 and the Ultimate Fights for UFC Undisputed 2010 is the introduction of Fight Categories and Multiple Challenges for each fight. Assigning each fight to a category helps structure the mode and allows players to easily identify each type of fight, while the introduction of Multiple Challenges for each fight adds replayability to the mode. You may also "play as the spoiler" and provide additional challenges and unlocks associated with the losing fighter, where players look to "rewrite history."

This is a great game, with visible damage to your character and your opponent, for instance, if you repeatedly kick your opponent in the ribs, his ribs will get red, then purple, and eventually look almost black from bruising, this also relates to how damaged the area is. If you repeatedly strike the rib area for example, you can break their ribs and get "daze" them so that you can land very powerful strikes to the head and body. You can even get a knock out if you do indeed break their ribs, and while they are dazed, strike them repeatedly in the ribs.

With all of that said, like almost all fighting games of this type, the grappeling and submission gameplay is not super great. It is IMPOSSIBLE to submit a CPU opponent. By impossible I mean, I had the game in begginner difficultly, had the opponents life bar in the far red, grappeled him, got into several dominant positions relitively easy, as I had nearly full green life bar, and every time I initiated a submission he would get out. I tried arm bar, Kamura, even a rear naked choke back mount top while I was full health, he nearly none. It is IMPOSSIBLE to submit CPU in this game, and yet it appears that the CPU can submit you at anytime they choose, no matter how better off your stamina and life bar is, no matter how fast or furious you spin the analog stick. It is the go to move when the computer decides you have won enough.

The Stand up and Ground and Pound are amazing and great fun, but don't bother trying to do anyting involving submission, you will fail.

UFC 2010 for ps3 has potential to be the greatest MMA game ever. The only reason I say it is not the greatest game yet is because there are several bugs. It is very hard to get a fight online and the career mode has some problems, including your stats decaying too quickly, fatigue not really playing as much of a factor as it should be, and opponents getting too tough too quickly. Some of the ufc fighters also need a little tweaking but as soon as the developers get a patch update out there, and I am confident they will, this will be the best MMA game ever. Despite these current problems, I also want to address its successes. The graphics are UNBELIEVABLE, every fighter looks completely real. And the realism doesn't stop there, every fighter in the game has fighting styles and abilities that are just like the real fighters. There are also all kinds of new features like the ability to make and play your own pay per view which is so fun if get some friends to play through it and the other gameplay modes that ensure you will never get bored of this game. So all in all, I would highly recommend this game if your a fan of the UFC although would recomend you wait until they get a solid patch update out there so you can enjoy it to its fullest.

Ever since the release of UFC 2009 I could not wait for the 2010 version to see what they would add and how to make the game that bit more realistic.
UFC 2009 was such a huge jump from the old UFC games of old in the way you could control your fighters and the vast array of technical moves, but it never quite felt you were in complete control when in clinch or on the ground, most of us probably wore out our R3 stick on the Playstation controllers getting (or trying) out of submissions. Also the clock rotating of the stick to get your opponents off of you so you didn't get grounded and pounded.
So on to the latest in the series UFC Undisputed 2010. First thing to note is the huge roster selection in each weight class to choose from it's just so vast and with the PS3 version there are even some of the "Old School" UFC veterans to select.
Next is the way the fighters look and move in the octagon, This has been improved and all the fighters seem to move, act and re-act as you would expect their real life counterparts.
Now to the action, the stand up game is much the same the added improvement of the "Sway" is good but still needs some work, it's fairly basic and once you get to learn the sway pattern it really easy to ensure your punches connect 90% of the time, also the addition of pushing you opponent against the cage whilst a welcome addition still feels rushed and not quite like the real thing.
As I said above the two main things for me were the clinch and ground game and although again they have improved both of these areas it's still not quite there.

So far in the year 2010 we've seen vast improvements on sports titles in general. One that stands out this year is UFC Undisputed 2010. From the graphics to the game mechanics, THQ out did themselves this year. The all-new presentations make you feel like you're in the UFC universe. Using the term KISS (Keep it simple stupid), their navigation menus make it much easier for users to access different modes and options with low loading times (as comparable to last years high loading times). Those looking to create-a-fighter will not be disappointed this time as they made CAF as robust as possible, especially with a 1 year deadline. My favorite part about CAF is that they have name templates to choose from. For example, if you name is Aaron Smith, they have "name templates" that could have your first and last name. Luckily for me I found my name and to my surprise, Bruce Buffer and Golide announced my names both in the introductions and during the fight! The gameplay took a tweak to the right as they added better and smoother animations (no delay between animations), easier ground game control, and MUCH better hit detection. Fighters now dont have moves based solely on a single martial art, they now have individual move sets that adhere to how the fighter really fights in real life. A simple example is Jon "Bones" Jones who has a signature spinning back elbow that he used against Stephan Bonnar. Yet, you wont see Jon Jones do an omaplata on the ground. The fighters are starting to get as real as it can get for now and I'm happy to see how much more authentic they are made.Read more ›
